Why do I get the feeling there is something about Tomlin leaving that we are not being told about

I don't think there's any deep secret as to why Tomlin resigned. 19 years as a head coach is a long time, and he hasn't been competitive in the playoffs for nearly a decade. Maybe part of it was that he feared breaking Marvin Lewis' record of losing the most consecutive playoff games? Who really knows? It was wise of him to step down now (it's not like he needs the money), take a year off, and come back in 2027 with a fresh perspective. Maybe he'll coach again, maybe he won't. I wish him luck in whatever path he choses to follow.

There was an OL years ago who quit mid season

But he was accepted to Medical school and didn’t want to hurt his hands

Tomlin will probably take Bradshaw's job on FOX

I doubt that we will ever know. Publicly, I believe Rooney said that he would take Tomlin back for next year and that it was tomlin's decision to step away. That could be the straight up truth, or maybe it was one of those face-saving statements made after a hard conversation between the two of them.

Art's comments about always wanting to be competitive actually makes me wonder a little bit if he had a hand in pushing to plug the holes each year and be able to make a run at the playoffs rather than building the team right.

TJ has been in the playoffs 5 times. Two of those years he was a rookie and the other was this year where he should have been out for the year from almost destroying his lungs.

You wanna compare 3 games to 19 years? Does TJ call the shots for himself or a team?

Hearing the "Fire Tomlin" chants did him in.

But......he said it hurt him deeply that he couldn't fix the problems that let us down.

    What does that mean?
He had no control over fixing things? Is he blaming someone higher up?

And you are grasping what I am saying. Ronde Barber is his old pal and Cowher an X Steeler head coach. They are not going to say anything remotely degartroy about him. Quite the opposite.

Meanwhile Tomlin has said nothing on air or in print about the situation which many Steeler fans are mystifying. He is out.

    This is very strange.

I read that as saying he does not know how to fix the problems. Vrabel was run out of the Titans and has the Patriots sitting pretty. Tomlin might be the same thing. He is not getting it done for the Steelers and does not see the path forward. Having been there running it for 19 years, he just may not be able to see the problems. He is probably so ingrained into the way things are that change is beyond his ability.

I had a boss a long time ago that kind of did that to me. Asked me why I was doing something like this when it would be better a different way. I was resistant to his way until I really thought about it more and realized that his way was better. My problem was that I was too ingrained in the way it has always been. It would not surprise me if that is part of the problem for Tomlin and maybe what he meant by his can't fix the problem statement, even if he did not realize what he was saying.

See that in a many different areas. Some labels get hung up on formulas/formats and miss the time change.

Get out of here with those excuses Watt has one career sack in the playoffs, he wanted to be the highest paid edge rusher and they paid him now he's washed.

all the games have been blow outs, what the **** did you want him to do?!

TJ Watt was the most valuable player on this team his entire time until this season.

What’s the hard on with you dinks in destroying TJ Watt all of a sudden? That guy killed himself to turn himself into a likely hall of famer and the only star in the horrid 1st round drafting of the last decade.

Maybe you should educate yourself and spare me the bull****.

If your best player is a no show for every playoff game, it makes it harder to win don't you think .

You want an edge guy to make a difference when your coach sucks and your QBs blow in an Offensive era where if you breath on a QB you get called for a penalty. Stupid and delusional.

Is Bradshaw hanging it up? I don't see him and Tomlin coexisting in the same show/stage.

Signing AR and all these over 30 vets was his last hurrah or hail mary for a playoff run. I think he knew that going into this season. I think the fans booing a few weeks ago sort of sealed the deal.

19 years is a long time for coaching in the NFL. Anyone would get worn out. Even Shula and Landry were probably out of gas for the last few years of their careers
