Why do I get the feeling there is something about Tomlin leaving that we are not being told about

Cowher mentioned once he was crushed by his daughters asking him not to take them somewhere. The idolizing fans were getting in the way of time with his family

I really doubt it is a 1 thing issue. Here are some factors that I bet played a part:

    1. He has offers to commentate. Brady is getting 35 million a year. Tomlin is at about 17 million a year as HC. You can bet that he will get a significant pay raise to go into the booth.
    2. The stress. Being HC is a stressful job without a doubt. He has been doing it for 19 years. Doing something else will carry its own stress, but I bet that it will be something that is far less stressful that being the HC.
    3. Family life. You can bet that he is going to have more time with his family, no matter what job he takes or maybe he straight up retires. He has made a lot of money, so that is not an impossibility.
    4. The fans. Tomlin has been getting a lot of hate this year, unlike any other year. Losing another playoff game after doing just enough to get there was going to leave him facing 8 months of everyone talking about his tying the playoff loss record and wondering if he will break it this year.
    5. Future team prospects. The average age of player on the Steelers is old. We are facing some significant growing/recovery/rebuilding pain next year. I think it is going to be made worse with Art Rooney's desire to compete no matter what. While I agree with his attitude, that attitude does not allow space for doing some things that need to be done in order to build a team that does not look like a patchwork quilt with a few holes in it.
    6. Maybe there are some key players who have privately said they are done. For all we know, Aaron Rodgers may have already told Tomlin that he is not returning and that makes the QB spot as a major crisis for a team that does not trust rookies. Maybe TJ and Cam said they are done. TJ had his lung popped like a balloon and Cam is 36 in a position where the average age is 28. Heck, maybe all of them gave a verbal notice. It could even be the loss of his coordinators. Love or hate him, Arthur Smith is a big part of the team. He is interviewing for HC jobs. If he gets one, now Tomlin has that to deal with as well.
    7. His record is colorful and has its lumps, but at the end of the day he did not have a losing season for his entire HC coaching career of 19 years in a row. Everyone always says it is better to go out on top. In some areas, this is what he is doing. Does he want to finish his contract out and run the risk of having his first losing season being his last in the NFL? Right now, the near future looks grim for us due to age, contracts and several key positions that need filled.
    8. And maybe it is as simple as fatigue. For anyone that has ever done a hard and demanding job for a very long time knows, you eventually get to a point where you know that it has been a good run, but it is time to step down.....well, most people know. Some just think they are as energetic and awesome as they were 20 years ago while everyone else wishes they would retire.....lol

Some people just need to hear themselves talk. And no matter what every teacher ever says, yes there is such a thing as a dumb question. In fact, they are quite common....lol

Bengals will fire Zac Taylor after next season and then try to land Tomlin in 2027. Problem is that they will not break the bank for him so he will land elsewhere that has a top tier QB.

I just think it was weird he didn't get a press conference send off like Cowher and Noll?

Unless he just didn't want it?

Mostly agree with what you wrote. But what is Art II side of the story?

If Tomlin has a wife dying from cancer or other disease you have a point.

I had a feeling at that time he was dealing with family stuff and he wanted to be there for his family. Big Ben made it worse with his stupid decisions too. If Ben wasnt such and ass hat, maybe Cowher stays a little longer. I dont know.

As far as Tomlin, I am still in shock at the amount of horse**** i keep hearing about him being a great coach when he won 3 ****ing playoff games in the last 15 seasons. I can't get my head around why these morons keep saying the word "great". It's driving me nuts.

It seemed to with Cowher but if he had still had the fire in his belly I really believe he'd have got us the 6th and a 7th.

Reading the tea leaves… I believe his family played a big part. His one son had moved out and pursuing music and constantly fighting Steelers fans on social media. His wife reposted happy bday to his daughter after he resigned and it wasn’t her birthday insinuating that was one of her wishes.

It just ran its course. I’m sure his family feels some type of way about Pittsburgh/Steelers fans. But I’d like to remind them some GMs/coaches barely last a few years in NY or Boston. This was 19 years!! Time heals all.

Apparently you didn't read what Cowher or Ronde Barber had to say about it.

AR2 says he was ready to run it back with Tomlin for another season, and I believe him. Mike wasn't any getting pressure from Rooney to leave.

Which kinda scares me when it comes to his upcoming HC hire.

Kind of makes you wonder what he thinks he has coming back next year that would jeopardize his non losing streak. And with just two non-winning seasons, getting right back into the grind may be a little early until he can figure WTH he is doing. No rush. JMO>
