According to Brett Kiesel in today's PG, Lebeau has told
the DE's that they will be altering their play. HOORAY
maybe we can return to Blitzburgh. ATTACK, get after the QB.The article goes on to say more pressure is needed, and it hasn't been coming from the LB's enough.

Didn't we hear some similar talk from keisel about this time last year? I'll believe it when I see it.

two guys, cam and ziggy not only have been allowed to sack the qb and make plays in the run game, but have had trouble getting off their blocks to make them.

I will say arnfelt is really good at that, plus he's got some length and his quickness off the ball, but he's also got very good speed on the run. at least in college.

aaron smith had that knack, it helped him be as good as he was.he had more length then ziggy. I believe that's some of his problem.

cam gets held a lot in the run game when he's in, I've noticed. just as he's ready to make a play those wiley old vet linemen will give him a tug and the play will go by him. he's in the right position to make those plays, but he's got to get those guys off him. ziggy too. his new speed could help some. a couple of new moves and he can be solid
    .

our biggest help to these guys though is the play of our middle man. steve mclendon will need some extra attention, taking some off the o-lines help to the outside guys. not to mention making the qb move into the outside pursuit.

keisel has slimmed down too. quickness of the snap messes o-linemen up when they start getting tired. he's also got good length.

more batted balls will help too. get about half as many as jj watt for each of our guys and I could care less if the get sacks.

we have the horses to do this. the D-line is the absolute least concern to me this year.

    whewwwww!

Yeah I think McClendon is really going to help this line out. Big snack while still good in the last few years wasn't moving the line backwards he was more of just standing his ground. Now in the run game that works great for everyone but really can mess things up when the qb drops back. I'm excited for the psycho package this year.

I actually think that this will help Cam and Hood. These guys came out of systems where they were to go get the QB. DL has kept that from happening, probably as a lesson to them about proper positioning first, but it is time to let them free.

I think Ziggy gets more grief than he deserves. But as far as I can tell, the absolute worst thing about him is his pass rush, and it's because he looks like he's not really trying. He's so focused on being in the right lane and taking on the right blocker that he doesn't do what he needs to do to actually beat the blocker. He just sort of patty-cakes them. On the few times he does go all out, he looks much, much more threatening as a defender. He needs to let loose. I think he could be a 4-6 sack per year guy, which is a lot for our DEs.

LeBeau preaches gap responsibility and not getting beat and wants his playmakers making the play.

The game is evolving and what makes LeBeau great is he keeps up and adjust to it. Baltimore beat us and rice ran like crazy with their new OL blocking scheme-- Zone Blocking- last year. In that scheme, if our DL try to stick to gap integrity the OL will not only defeat it but also get to the 2nd level and get a helmet on our LBers. One way to attack an OL deploying the stretch is to have the DL more aggressive and disruptive. More & More teams are moving to zone blocking. Our defense is getting help by going against our new OL scheme. Kinda like iron sharpens iron--- trench players build trench players!!!!
