WAIT WAIT WAIT...that was not "internet rumors" that was straight from Mr. Inside source himself...Douchette! Also why Dwyer called him out....and Douchette had the nerve to backtrack.....

I unexpectedly was out all day and didn't get to watch. Did they just not show anything except guys standing around in the background? I thought they were going to show drills and stuff. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I caught just a little bit a minute ago and they were showing Ben throw some short passes to receivers. After 4 or 5, Landry Jones took over and I was like, "Alright! I get to wa--" and then they cut to Dennis Green talking. Clearly the director's mindset was, "Okay, Ben's done. Now it's boring."

I'm a Steelers fan and I couldn't care less about Ben right now. I want to see Landry. These guys have a 12 hour show all about training camp and they still don't understand the point of it. Gee, kinda like covering the draft for 8 hours straight and still only managing to cover a quarter of the players drafted.

What was the exchange? Do you remember?

Um, if Baron Batch can't do this, then he has no place on this team.

Ill look...but it was something like Dwyer said he wanted to prove his critics wrong...and said Bouchette by name....and then Douchette wrote back something like...I don't know why he called me out...all I said was he needs to be in better shape (im paraphrasing...but it was just last week)

I don't remember what Ed originally said. I do remember other members of local media saying he looked fat and paunchy at OTA's.

    Found it! http://plus.sites.post-gazette.com/...21491-ed-rookie-signings-mean-little-anymore.

Jonathan Dwyer is heavy, real heavy, and his teammates cannot believe he is in such lousy shape. It’s early June, so he has a few months to get into shape, but if he reports to camp this way, his roster spot is in severe jeopardy. Unless there is an injury, he may not make it anyway because as I’ve written, the Steelers are not likely to carry two backup running backs at a $1.3 million salary each. And Isaac Redman is way ahead of Dwyer in the pecking order.

Ah, yes, I do recall that now that you mention it. So Dwyer lost 30lbs in a month, hmmm, guess Douchette was being, well, a douche.

Historically, the backs get owned in this exercise.

However, I seem to remember this being something Batch was notably good at. Not a good sign given the available spaces...

so he was fat, why is that buchettes fault? he was almost 270lbs. and he was right , if he had shown up at camp at that weight he would be cut.

we went through this last year a month before camp. he said he learned then what it takes to be ready to play. well he wasn't. now dwyer says the exact same thing he said last year. the same thing he did in college too. redman is the man to beat right now.

Because he wasn't, he made those comments in June, that's a hell of a training program losing 30lbs in a month.

it's the end of july. that's a good month and a half or closer to two if it was done early in the month. 30 lbs. in 6-7 weeks is quite doable. heck I lost 76 in 8 weeks.

Lol. Is Dwyer in competition with Mel B from the Spice Girls to be the new face of the company?

Batch stonewallaed Deebo one time in his rookie camp, and everyone **** their pants. It's impressive yes... but everyone gets owned a time or two.

My recollection was that he was the only back to do it to a backer, though.

I do wonder what would have happened if Batch hadn't got injured... he's still around based on his early flashes of genuine potential, but any time I've seen him on the field he always seems to be 'warming up' rather than leading the game. Or am I expecting too much from a young back up?

Batch was supposed to be the Mewelde Moore guy. And he hasn't been that bad at it (but also hasn't shown anything more than that since his training camp knee injury as a rookie). Picking up blitzes should be his specialty. Dwyer, Bell, and Redman are all considerably better ball carriers. Redman is a good pass protector, Dwyer's getting there, and Bell figures to be good. If Batch sinks to their level at what he does best (or lower) then there's no reason to keep him whatsoever. Add in the different skill set of LSH and the potential of Curtis McNeal, and the fact that Batch hasn't shown any flashes since pre-preseason of 2011, and Baron's on the outside looking in.

I don't remember Deebo ever once getting stonewalled by a RB in a game. But it happened more than once in backs on backers. Why? Because it's not real, so he gets to play around a little. He gives them full power without any kind of attempt at actually getting around them - something he'd never do in a game - to see if they can take it. From the RB's perspective, all you need is to guess correctly when that's coming and give him full power back, and if you are strong and have good technique, you'll win the play. Of course, the type of explosion you need to have to stop James Harrison... if you prepare for that and he makes the slightest move to the side, you're going to whiff, so it's not something you can just do whenever. But if the stars align and you do it at the right time, it'll look like you're some kind of superhero.

There was a lot of fuss when Sean McHugh did it, too. But in a game, with a real quarterback instead of a spot on the ground, that doesn't ever happen.

Ok, I might have been wrong after watching this video. Jones is bigger than I first thought he was.

That's what I thought watching that video as well.

The other thought was "Who the hell is video taping this?"

Still, appreciated the video though. The rules for the camp state "No Video Cameras", but with all the cameras/phones that take video these days how can you stop it?

Maybe they should change it to "Please, do not video tape our drills." LMAO

    Edit:
I'm on vacation now, but will be there for next Wednesday's practice session (Weather permitting). Reunion in Alabama tthis weekend unfortunately. 40 years and 15 of them in Pittsburgh and this is my first time going up to Latrobe!
