By buying the ticket he agreed to the terms and conditions of the stadium code of conduct

Offenses against anyone including players, coaches, officials, opposing team fans and staff will not

be tolerated including foul language, racial slurs, verbal abuse, or throwing objects.

    Fair enough.

That said, Players have to follow the NFLs own Conduct Policy themselves. It is a two way street. Again, not condoning what the fan did.

All I am saying is that the NFL had no choice but to suspend D.K. As for this fan?! We shall see.

DK did stupid stuff in Seattle too - offensive PI and unsportsmanlike penalties - surprised to see it when we had one head case receiver and added another.

Stupid is as stupid does. Lazard can fill in for two games. DK isn't worth the pick, contract and headaches anyway.

Sure, hate speech is protected (as long as it's not an incitement to violence or a threat).

But you know very well that the First Amendment only protects you from being prosecuted by the government. It does NOT protect you from civil consequences. So if a private business wants to throw you out or ban you, they can. Too many people think they can say whatever they want to whoever they want and not have to pay the piper. I'm not saying DK should've confronted him. But the fan's behavior definitely should be punished as well.

I guarantee you he'd never say that to DK in a bar or on the street.

It might not be protected under the first amendment. Targeted harassment is an area that makes it exempt . Screenshot_20251222_175812_Samsung Internet.jpg

So again, I am not condoning the fan. As I told @jeh1856@jeh1856, the NFL's Conduct Policy is a two way street. Let us see what happens to the fan. It is clear to me that the NFL has made its decision on D.K.

They’d love nothing more than to have the final Steelers/Ravens game be meaningful. Huge ratings = huge money.

As I said, as far as my understanding of the 1st Amendment goes.

Targeted harassment is clearly where the line does need to be drawn. That much I do agree for that is going beyond the law itself. That said, will the NFL factor D.K.s prior history with this fan into the equation?! Time will tell via his appeal.

There are so many factors that tell me that the two-game suspension is inappropriate.

    1. The fan's version of the story makes no sense. He claimed that all he did was use Metcalf's real first name. I've seen a video clip of local Pittsburgh media guys in which one said Metcalf told him he prefers it, but is fine with DK because people usually don't pronounce DeKaylin properly. The fan's story is not credible.

    2. Metcalf reported the same fan to Seahawks security last year, so there is reason for the fan to have a grudge.

    3. The fan lawyered up almost immediately. He is out for a payday and/or a pound of flesh for Metcalf reporting him last year.

    4. Look at the fan's reaction. He wasn't shocked, as he claimed. He was thrilled. He raised his arms in celebration as Metcalf walked away.

    5. There is an accusation out there that the fan used a racial slur and made an offensive comment about Metcalf's mother.

    6. This suspension could decide a playoff berth. If things go the Ravens' way this weekend, the Steelers have to play them for the playoff spot Week 18. Metcalf was arguably the most impactful player for the Steelers in the first meeting. His absence would have a huge impact on the rematch.

    7. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson shoved a fan earlier this season. The circumstances were not exactly the same, but faced no discipline at all.

    8. The league handed the Ravens enough of an advantage by giving them more rest before both meetings with the Steelers this season. One was after Baltimore played on a Thursday, and this one is after them playing on Saturday. How does that happen?

Okay, the last one is reaching, but the rest of it makes a two-game ban unfair and inappropriate. Rooney should be raising holy hell with the league this week. The Steelers always play the good soldiers, no matter what crap the league pulls on them. It is time for that bill to come due.

I am hopeful that with pressure from Rooney and some common sense, the suspension will be reduced to one game.

Here's the thing. I don't think the league had to suspend him at all. I think the league is caving to pressure created by CBS's coverage of the incident and the threat of a lawsuit by the fan.

Edit: I revised this after seeing a different angle. I hadn't noticed the fan celebrating as Metcalf walked away.

Well, DK won the battle, but loss the war. The NFL did nothing to the fan, but definitely made an example out of DK.

Putting aside the league's ridiculous decision, Metcalf's actions were inexcusable. He failed miserably in his responsibility to the team and his teammates.

Remember how we kept hearing Pickens had to go because he was too childish and selfish? He never did anything this damaging to his team. This makes Khan's failures in acquiring help at wide receiver even more egregious. It makes the Pickens trade look even worse, if that was even possible.

The NFL can decide what type of behavior they’ll allow in their venues.

Try freedom of speech with your employer. Most time it won’t work out well.
I’m not looking to get into a whole debate on what constitutes freedom of speech. That can get political. Just know that you can’t say whatever you want on someone else’s property if they don’t want you to without consequences.

They may or may not do anything to the “Fan” , but if they want to ban him they can and it won’t violate anyone’s constitutional rights.

On a side note on the Jumbotron the Steelers code of conduct is calmly and clearly recited…

    … by James Harrison…

… and then he ads with a snarl “Or else”

Nothing I've seen indicates the fan called him a racial slur or anything hateful. This video is pretty damning for DK. Bottom line is, the fans are going to harass you all game, you have to ignore it. DK acted like a fool.

    Interesting angle.
