No backs that have high YPC do it by getting 4+ yards on every play. They get the high YPC by ripping off long runs.

My guess prior to the season was that Warren would finish around 4.4-4.5 YPC. He’s too explosive to not have a couple games where he rips off some yards. We’ve been a bit hit or miss running the ball as a team (our run blocking is hit or miss), but overall I think our backs have been pretty good.

It doesn’t matter! Those long runs don’t count because they skew the stats.

I don’t think we have to have a “Bell cow” RB1. If we can get really good play from a tandem (which I think we have), then we’re more than good. A WR2 would be much more impactful than a marginally better RB.

I don’t know what Gainwell costs, but I can’t imagine it being more than 5-6 mil a year. He’s worth that, and I’d be fine throwing 10 mil at the position across two players. We are probably a good WR away from having a quite good offense right now.

Yep. I think anyone who looks at it knows this.

But it's something the poster I quoted said wasn't the case re: YPC.

It's the reason why Najee always had a poor YPC. Didn't get the huge runs (although he was pretty good at getting 10+ yard runs). And it certainly felt like he got stuffed a lot. We seemed to have a lot of 2nd and 8+. And then a lot of stupid runs on 2nd and long (which is almost giving up on the series IMO).

Yeah, never huge runs and a lot of runs for nothing. The main differences are that we can block both Warren and Gainwell big plays. Najee was big play proof. Just had to hold the blocks for too long to get him going. Once he was out he couldn’t go fast enough to cash in.

I am just glad that we have the guys we have. They’ve both played stretches of really good ball. Warren was due for a big breakout. He is far too good of a back to not have had a massive one for a while.

After all this time, you are still misunderstanding my argument.

My argument has always been that they thought Harris was the better back the last three seasons. It is a simple argument based on the fact that they started him in every game, gave him more snaps, and more touches. To me, the looney tunes argument is that they would do that if they thought Warren was better. That would make no sense.

You argued that they let him go because they thought Warren was better. I argued that they did it because they thought he would be cheaper, because Harris ran his mouth too much about money, and because Harris had a lot of wear and tear on his body. You came around on the last point once he got hurt. Sort of.

I never thought there was some big gap between them. I thought they should kept both (with Harris on the option) for this year, then moved on from Harris. Then find someone else to share the load with Warren, as they have with Gainwell because he can't be a true lead back. Even today, when he was having a monster game, they only ran him 14 times. Gainwell got the ball on the last series before Boswell's miss instead of Warren. WTF?

I would love to see it. Warren needs a partner to share the load.

Even with the game in Detroit, Harris had more 20-plus yard runs last season than Warren has had this season. Harris had nine. Warren has five.

Gainwell could get more than that this offseason. He has had a fantastic year.

The ceilling of Harris is 4 yards per run...For Warren, this is his floor but he has bigger success rate with that

I understand it just fine, I just think it’s ridiculous but moving on to your last point it still hasn’t occurred to you thats coaching malpractice and instead you still insist on it being a Warren problem.

I still think our running game isn't all that good and I'd like to see an upgrade in the lead spot.

But they were great last night.

Maybe upgrading the RB1 will be less important if we don't completely ignore WR2 for the 3rd year in a row.

    Yep.

It's only been 1,112 carries. He's 190th on the career rush attempts list (since 1930). If I'm counting right, he's at 14th highest carries for active players.

Needs to get over 1476 to crack the top 100 (although Chubb and Montgomery will pass that number first).

At some point, the cake's already baked.

Ask a Ravens fan how well a bell-cow RB works without a RB2.:icon e biggrin:

In this league you need two decent, but not elite RBs to make it through a season.

    what a game.

he is a home run hitter

    yes - DET's D is depleted.

But Najee could not take those runs to the HOUSE. THAT is why we had to do what we did.

Love him and Gainwell as the tandem.....

Oline was blowing up some holes and Jaylen was a rocket. Najee would have danced for a 2 yard gain.

Offensive line had a lot to do with it

The Warren / Gainwell duo is really dangerous when they have room to work. Gainwell has made himself some serious money this season

Well I'm sure it's the buzz of winning 3 in a row but I'm thinking we will not go easy in the Playoffs if we make it of course.
