That's only one more than Metcalf or Diggs.

JPJ is the only CB on the team that you can trust in man coverage. Grabby? Yes. But I will take that every day over easy completions against a CB five yards away.

Little noticed but Pierre is playing top ball right now. Targeted 15 times and only allowed 3 completions. Austin/Tomlin just don't put him on the field much.

JPJ is in all likelihood, the best CB we've had since Haden.

He battles on every play and yep it comes with some penalties but he is battling. Can't complain about that.

    Six now:
    5 Defensive Pass Interference (totaling 51 yards);
1 Defensive holding (5 yards); and
    1 Illegal Contact (5 yards).

And I don't hold any of them against him. Solid cover guy for us.

With Pierre and Echols stepping up and Dugger and Ramsey stabilizing the back end, this is the best the secondary has looked in a long time.

I was waiting for someone to point this out. To be totally fair he has been flagged 6 times, but 2 were declined for whatever the reason.

But we should totally continue with the grabby storyline. It makes everyone so excited.

I am on the side of Porter not being all that more or less grabby than other physical DBs across the league.

I just think that "storyline" is a bit over played because it is easy and folks like easy things to talk about.

I think the better question for Porter Jr is whether his lack of physicality in tackling is sufficiently made up by his pass coverage or without improving his INT rate, his deficiencies in the run game are too big to ignore and hand out a second contract.

Hopefully that word salad of a sentence made sense.

I had him ranked as a Top 20 Player back during my rankings from 2023. Again, I dont think he will ever become the Perennial Pro Bowler Id thought he would be but being a CB 1 is no easy task. Given how Offensively tilted the rules are now?!

Finding even a solid CB 1 is like finding a needle in a haystack. Once you find them?! Have to do all ypu can to keep them. Doubly so though for Offensive Lineman who have it worse.

This is year three for Porter Jr. the penalties need to decrease, they had the Ravens stopped on third down then a penalty by Porter Jr. gives the Ravens a first down .

He needs to refine his game. Reduce PI`s for one.

Not anymore. He's shown out quite well this season (and most of last season too). That was true his rookie year... but he's very clearly an above average tackler at the CB position. He's put in the work, and it shows. He's earned that respect.

He has 6 this year... So, definitely better. 4 PI (all accepted), 1 holding (declined), 1 offsides (declined). I don't remember if he had one vs. the Ravens or not... might've been that declined holding?

He would be considered a pretty high end CB1 if he could do 2 things... he has to beat the reputation of being grabby, and he has to find a way to catch better. He has Ike Taylor hands unfortunately. If he generated more TO's and took a couple less flags, I think he'd be considered a top 15 CB1 pretty easily.

His yards per target allowed went from 8 to 5.1, his yards per completion went from 12.7 to 10.6, his comp % allowed went from 62.8 to 47.9, and his passer rating allowed went from 82.7 to 54.4. All great steps from year 2 into year 3. He's really turned into an Ike Taylor caliber CB (he's obviously not as good a tackler, though he's really become a quite good one the past year and a half). He does his job, doesn't allow much, won't create many turnovers, but pretty consistently do what is asked of your top CB. Many have asked for another Ike Taylor level CB to come to this team and we have one now.... Now we just need to find a way to find another good CB to play beside him. Pierre is doing a nice job this year (maybe we give him a shot next year as the full time CB2), but if we could get a Sutton type (outside when 2 corners, nickel in sub packages) and let Pierre be the CB3.... then that is perfect. Maybe Asante Samuel ends up being that guy. Maybe we sign one or draft one. Idk.... Maybe we keep Dugger and pair him with Elliott at safety and let Ramsey play that nickel/roaming CB with Samuel/Pierre battling to be the CB2... lots of options.
