Never even heard of him until the Steelers drafted him. I guess he won't be making bad money for holding a clipboard. Not trying to harp on the kid but best case scenario is that he rides the pine all 4 seasons.

i know for alot of people that is the thinking. if the kid gets good , we may get rid of ben in the next few years.

that may or may not happen. i'd much rather do it this way, then having to hope we darft a new ben in the 1st round when he hangs it up. that just sets the rest of our players back a few years. thats if the new rook can do it.

it's no different then getting him now and seeing what happens, because we have our butts covered somewhat. the kid threw for 17,000 yards in 4 years somehow. our backups were freakin ancient. it was time.

i'm more apt to lean towards the question, why gradkowski?

You can rest assured that's not what's going on with this kid. ;-)

I don't know man, weird things happen. Ben gets hurt often. You never know...it wouldn't really surprise me if Jones saw playing time within the next couple seasons. Nothing really surprises me anymore, though. :lolol:

I said it in the draft thread or the Landry Jones thread during the draft that I like the pick not so much because of Jones but because the FO was finally looking to the future and addressing the QB position. Lets face it unless they suffer a total collapse or pull a Ricky Williams type trade they aren't getting a top ten pick any time soon and that is where most sure thing QB's are found. After that you have to gamble and look for diamonds in the rough and develop guys that may not jump out at you. This is a good pick to get a guy in system to learn.

He'll definitely see playing time, thats crazy to think that he will never play with Bens track record. Most likely he'll never be anything more then Bens back up while here but if he shines and becomes our new starter down the line, awesome.

I like Grad's chances better than Jones. His gritty style fits.

Curious, since Jones will likely be on the game day inactive list at least early on, is there any sort of "league rule" that would prohibit the Steelers from moving him from the sidelines to upstairs in the coaches box for a few games?

I don't believe there is a league rule against it. I remember Peyton Manning sitting in the Colts' press box with assistant coaches after his surgery. Most teams have 2-3 assistant coaches from offense and defense up in the booth, mostly for play charting and data collecting.

I think the team will want Jones on Randy Fichtner's hip on the sidelines, getting all he can from him and Ben during live games.

    Thanks.
I was really only thinking about doing it for say 3 of the 6 divisional games; thought it might give him a better look at the flow and adjustments that their defenses make.
