"If we can, and I can, continue to mix it up and not just give them something they can just, 'Okay, hey, this is what we have," that gives us an advantage. Because I stand up here, and I've said it before, I think we have good players. So that allows them to play and not play at a disadvantage. I've got to continue to try and do my best for our guys to get them in the best positions so they can perform."

If you're three years in as DC over a 34-year coaching career I don't know if this qualifies as next-level thinking.

Yep, no question, this is ALL Tomlin. The conservative offenses the bend AND break defenses with NO aggressiveness in the secondary. We just let the other WRs and TEs come open and hope we can tackle em for no more than a 10 or 15 yard gain. Someone needs to tell Tomlin a first down only needs 10 yards. He seems to have gone mushy.

Nothing will get better until Tomlin is ridden of out town, hopefully with malice. He's driving the Steelers into the ground and making a once proud franchise a laughingstock. It's a slow downhill grind, but another 10 years of this and we'll be picking first in 3 straight drafts.

Tomlins side of the ball sucks. The most expensive d in league sucks. reason we lost yesterday was not offense. It was rotten d that never covers the middle of the field that runs ancient d schemes. Groundhog Day for Steelers. Team quits at end of year. Good news is schedule is brutal rest of way so we can end the never had a losing season crap. Fire the entire front office including whole coaching staff start over stale as month old bread

Might as well dump Austin now. When you have one player questioning the schematics, others will follow. The longer they keep this guy, the worse things are going to get.

They gave him an extension in 2024 to take him to 2026.

I'm willing to bet if they are going to fire him, it will happen middle of next season.

Our highest paid defense is terribly coached and coming apart at every nail.

I'll be surprised if they make changes after the season. Remember the standard!

You nailed the crux of the problem. Same old, same old with Tomlin lead team. We suck donkey balls. We fold in big moments. We haven't been a REAL contender in well over a decade. Yet he keeps getting extended.

Correction, Rooney and Tomlin suck donkey balls. We're just passionate, angry, hungry and trying to fend off inevitable apathy that comes with being so predictably medicore or bad.

Also a Buckeye. While Jim Knowles IS famous for his complex defense... at one point he bragged that it takes three years to fully install... it's not THAT complex. It's mostly Saban/Belichick match quarters and cover 3, but with a bunch of hybrid players to disguise. The Ravens and Seahawks are both running it actually. What's complicated is all the checks and tags to adjust to different looks. I'm not surprised that's not in Tomlins defense, he's never made a halftime adjustment in his life.

This team is quitting on Tomlin. The lack of focus, the energy level, the lame coaching, the lack of leadership..... Rooney. ART ROONEY II get out your broom.

The question I go is who from this current staff is worth retaining?

    OC- debatable
    QBC-debatable
    RBC- potentially
    WRC- no
    TEC-no
    OLC- no

    DC-no
    DLC- debatable
    OLB/edge- yea
    ILB- no
    DBC-debatable

Out of the position coaches, I can only make a real case for one coach, with another being a lean yes, with the rest to being debatable to flat out no. I know this is more or less an Austin thread so I'll keep it more on the defensive side of the ball here, but if we're keeping Tomlin for the next 1-2 seasons, what's the point in rebuilding the defensive staff, only to have to rebuild it another staff in a couple of seasons? I dunno enough about the guys further down the pike so I dunno if they could fill the voids or we'd need to go outside of organization. Just a mess. Replacing Austin would probably be difficult if there's no long-term commitment to Tomlin.
