That's the time of possession for the Bills game.

I wonder what the worst time of possession in an NFL game has been since UFA+Salary Cap.

It's got to be hard to have the ball for less than 18 minutes.

Note: I should have guessed this.

According to the AI, the lowest time of possession ever is by the Cleveland Browns. Sept 12 1999 against our very own Steelers.

I also found a Pats game last year where fans were complaining that they were somewhere between 19 - 20 minutes.

Also the Steelers failed to gain a yard on 19 of their 43 offensive plays. An incredible 44% of their plays ended in no gain or a loss. This has to be a record in futility too.

Thats awful. Seriously, any other team and Tomlin would be getting fired this morning. At the very least, the OC would be.

That is a jaw dropping stat. But we haven't reached bottom yet, probably take another year or 2.

I think this season is a good chance for us to get to the bottom.

If we don't, the team will try to paper over the holes again.

Because the mission statement is to not play meaningless games / always be in competition for a playoff spot.

We won't try a rebuild to get younger and focus on the medium term over the short term.

The good thing and bad thing about Steelers ownership is that the need to run it like a business, not a toy. Rooney is rich by normal people standards, but not by NFL ownership standards. I think he needs the team to be consistently competitive for the business to work.

It's good because as fans we haven't had more than a handful of meaningless regular season games in decades. But it's bad because the team is in that valley of death right now...not good enough to do anything but maybe squeak into the 7th seed / not bad enough to draft a QB that can drive the team forward. And as a business decision, it's a better bet to stay in this limbo than to bet on a full rebuild and missing. Just like we completely whiffed on the last retooling of the offense (Najee, Pickett, Pickens, PF is at least OK, Jones not going to get the 5th year option...). Who's our best recent offensive draft pick? Dan Moore?

This is the same reason he isn't going to pay Tomlin $40MM to not coach for us + whatever a new coach is going to cost to run the show. Gotta wait until the contract is up.

No taking responsibility, no change, no accountability. It's almost like Tomlin is trying to get fired and AR2 is asleep in the den drooling on his sweater.

I looked it up last night and got some answers from stat muse. I don't have an account, so I can't see all the information. But there are teams that are worse believe it or not. The Steelers former lowest time of possession in the last 25 years was in 2003 against the chargers. It was 20 minutes exact. So last night was a new low record for time of possession in the last 25 years.

The lowest time of possession during that time frame was several minutes lower and ironically, it was the Steelers against the browns I think. The browns had around 12 minutes or something like that if I remember correctly.

We are also number 31 in time of possession for this season. Only the commanders are worse.

We have not seen rock bottom yet, that will come in a few seasons. If the team keeps losing ( I only see 1 possible win Dolphins) these million dollar babies will start checking out on IR.

The only hope I have is both OC and DC leave after the season and Weidl picks their successor, not puppets like Tomlin picks. Clip his wings enough and he won't be as giddy to sign another extension.

Yep, it very well could be, or we could come out on fire and beat them easily, or anything in between. This team is erratic.
One thing we know for sure, it will end the same way it has been ending for many years. Either we'll miss the playoffs, or get blown out in the first game. That's just how we roll.
We never play a really good game and just lose to a better team, we always implode.

If the coordinators leave, I hope we spend big money on outside people.

Like Cowher, Tomlin does best when he isn't the defacto coordinator.

Austin's contract apparently ends at the end of this season. I hope he's out and we bring in a good external coordinator.

Smith's contract runs through the end of next season and I can't imagine that our O is good enough that anyone will see him as a top HC candidate. So I think he's here next year too. I'm interested to see what he could do if we have more than one good skill player (at best) at a time.

It’s not the fact we suck that has me bothered, all teams go through it. It’s the fact that we show we are ok with not making drastic changes. We are ok with letting this happen over and over again.

We want to be surprised every now and then for a different outcome. Sure we have gut wrenching losses, it’s part of the game. However, year after year with MT we know the same things will happen. Season starts strong, ends poorly. Season starts rough but evens out. Playoffs are just a final game for us to see the Steelers before the offseason starts, and we all know this and accept it year after year.

This is the standard we are forced upon. We are too loyal to this team to stop watching but it’s getting to the point where wins and losses don’t mean anything anymore. Same outcome same result and people still want Tomlin here. I don’t understand it

I am not against bringing in an innovative coordinator on either side of the ball and let him do his thing. However, since Lebeau (who was a holdover) left in 2014, and Todd Haley (ties to the organization) in 2017, no coordinator on either side of the ball has been brought in to innovate and do what he did to earn the job. As a matter of fact, most have climbed through the ranks in Pittsburgh, which tells us that the team just wants them to come in and do what is already being done. You know, the same thing that they've been doing for years.

"But Tomlin would be hired by any team in the league in a second!"

Yeah. And his ass would've been handed to him along with his pink slip long ago for almost any other team in the league.

It's always helpful to go back and forth between QB's during the game lol.
