But, but we're still tied for first place. We still have a 2% chance to squeak out that super important playoff win. You can't just give up.

We needed a new coach the year after we lost to patriots and our coaches looked clueless. Everything about our team is stale. D schemes horrible. Offensive line has been a disaster for years. Hate to say it but losing the rest of the games is a possibility. Might be best thing to actually get real change with poor cheap owner and old school obsolete coach.

    No. This isn't the bottom.

It's completely unacceptable. It's infuriating. But not anywhere near the bottom.

Beat the lowly Browns and the Dolphins, and Ravens once. We are in, with a home game to start the playoffs. Likely again against the Bills, Chargers or Colts. Then against the top seed, NE Patriots. EzPz road to SB.

Nah there are still teams worse than us... we probably win 2 (I honestly don't know which 2, except the Browns are likely one of them). I could see us winning 3 if the Ravens s**t the bed against us once... but yeah... its not good. This team needs a lot if we want to be good again. We need another DL, a CB, a WR, maybe another OL... idk.

I think hes out of bullets. The roster has aging over the hill vets at key positions which spells doom (Watt, Cam, Rodgers). Likely his first, and maybe last losing season.

i look at 1991, the last year of Noll, and they went 7-9. But that roster had some serious young talent; Eric Green, Louis Lipps, O’Donnell, Greg Loyd, Lake, Rod Woodson on D. The next year the new coach turned them into a contender. We have some misused talent as well, maybe with a good draft and new staff, were back on the upswing.

btw, Noll left at the right time, i think Tomlin has gone past his expiration date by at least a few years. I think he was done after the 2017 playoff disaster. That tells you how Dan Rooney and ARII viewed things differently.

Get up for Ratbirds??? This was a playoff game, we are done..TJ said he's never been in a game where the O kept running the same play after play we didn't do anything to stop it.
He called out the coaching staff, Tony Romo also did without actually saying it

One could argue this IS the bottom for a Tomlin-led team. We've all seen this movie before. This team will steal a few games they shouldn't win and leave us fans with a sliver of hope for the playoffs. Tomlin will be praised for turning chickensh!t into chicken salad and they'll run it back next year with maybe one coordinator change. Wash, rinse, repeat.

After Chip Kelly was fired by the Raiders, some of how the players felt about the offense came to light, one was Jeanty and in his playbook he scribble “drunken play calling.”

I would love to learn how the Steelers players feel about our coaches game plans and play calling.

It is crazy because of how bad the AFC North is this year. In a regular year we would be 3rd in the North and out of the WC race. I still don’t see how this team wins more than 1 game this year. They are that bad.

Exactly. Tomlin just might squeak out 3 more wins, keep his non-losing streak in tact, and then get boat raced in the WC game. Then he will probably sacrifice Austin and promote a DC from within. Maybe another assistant or two will get the boot. We'll go overdraft and reach for a mid QB in round 1 and maybe a speedy undersized WR, a project OT or DT, and a couple late round DBs. Rooney will extend Tomlin again and we'll keep hearing from the media about how great a coach Mike Tomlin is. Nothing will change and we'll all just keep living ground hog day with our mediocre average team.

You're gonna love this also. We should make a run at SB with Mason.

Well, it feels like the bottom, and I speak from the perspective of a 53 year fan. Others have commented on the aging of the team, so it feels like the 1980s a bit this year.
Noll and Cowher both left a nucleus for the success of their predecessor. I am not sure Tomlin will leave the same.

Another thing- Tomlin looks so old and beaten down now. He looks much older than his years. Unfortunately, I think his legacy is leaning toward remembering the games he lost rather than those he won.

That’s what happens when you stick around too long many times. Not that I blame him for robbing Rooney when he’s willing to extend him for no reason other than “Steelers Way”

News flash Steelers Way is long over.

Remember, don't just focus on the coaches. This team also has the following issues that will need dealt with by whoever is in charge:

    1. No obvious path to competent (let alone excellent) QB play. And, I am sorry, but you could put whatever coaching genius you want in charge of this and Rodgers and Rudolph would still stink.
    2. They have no really playable CBs. Porter can't or won't tackle. It was an issue in college and has only been magnified in the pros. He does not make enough plays in coverage to make up for it. Honestly, if wasn't from Penn State and didn't have the last name of Porter...that draft pick might have got questioned more. A CB that won't tackle and doesn't make INTs. Slay is unplayable and the team knows it. Echols is just a guy. Same with Pierre. Ramsey is washed up as a CB and talks a lot of crap for a safety who can't make plays. So they have one viable NFL DB right now...an injured Elliot.
    3. Queen is a joke. He doesn't take on blocks. Can't clear traffic. Misses tackles. And hasn't made a play in a long time. There was a reason the Ravens wouldn't pay him. He's an incredible athlete and a great guy but he's a marginal impact player. It is honestly like he has zero instincts for the game. Like every play surprises him.
    4. Metcalf. He looks like a superhero but plays like just another guy. He runs mediocre routes, struggles to clear a jam off the line of scrimmage, and is surprisingly crappy at contested catches against smaller DBs. This was all plain as day when he was in Seattle. But everyone seemed to ignore it and think he was somehow going to play different in Pittsburgh.
    5. All the TEs are frauds. Friermuth can not or will not block effectively enough to play as the #1. And he isn't the caliber of athlete as a receiver that he can just separate enough for a team to ignore it. He is mike geisecki 2.0. Washington's hands are suspect at best. Smith is washed up or disinterested or something.
    6. The other WRs are useless appendages. Wilson runs bad routes. That was supposed to be his thing. But he is just another WAY overrated Michigan prospect. He has never met a route he can't take a bad angle on. Austin is a try hard guy that can have a role on an offense, but not that prominent of one. He is simply to dang small. Not his fault but it is what it is.

There are more but who cares at this point? The OL has some potential but it isn't like they are just blowing people off the ball. The DL also seems to have a decent foundation. I realize they just gave up a metric crap ton of yards on the ground...but I still think they have pieces to work with along the DL. But they have a lot of places on the roster that need an injection of NFL level talent - despite paying guys NFL level money.

and we're old...so yeah, steep drop.

The sadistic part of me wants Tomlin to stick around another year and get his 2-15 season. Wonder if the media might, MIGHT get off the Tomlin train, the same one 75% of Steelers fans lept off of 5 years ago.

We're all aware of many issues, but it all trickled down from the top, in order, Tomlin (biggest reason for most of that), Rooney (inept, spineless, cheap coaching payroll, content to be mediocre) and Khan/Weidl/Colbert. This GM side is mostly Colbert issue, years of bad drafts/moves left our depth chart fulle of holes. Khan/Weidl have been better, but it't nearing THEIR team now, especially once the has-beens retire en-mass. Tomlin hasn't hired a competent coach (and he is incompetent and needs to mask that with coordinators/assistants that are next level) in over a decade.

Start with Tomlin and the entire staff sent packing IF the new HC wants a complete flushing of the stink. I assume one or two lower level coaches might stay on, the few doing a solid job.
Get scouting and development ramped up to next-level.
Draft football players, not workout-warriors and 40 yard dash kings. If they ALL align, sure, draft the unicorn. Results over potential, all day, every day.
