It was also often a problem under Butler

Could it be the Stains D gets much more opportunity to improve because their offense sucks? Just wondering.

If that was true then the Raiders should be world beaters on defense.

I also noticed they dropped Herbig and Watt into coverage a few times, and played more single high to help stop the run I guess.

I think at least part of this is that we insist on evenly dividing snaps between Wilson and Harrison. My guess is that opposing passing success% is much higher when we put Malik in.

That is what the announcer said was happening; Harrison in, pass the ball. Wilson in run the ball. Pretty easy concept.

They've had the talent. There were ten(?) #1 draft picks on defense at one point. This has been going on for a decade now, there's been every combination of player on the field at one time or another with the same result. Enough.

The sad truth is Rooney is majority owner and runs the ship. What we think or say doesn’t matter.

They could string 0-17 seasons one after another and it’s his call to make.

I think he has checked out and is somewhere at the bottom of a bottle of Scotch.

    Bottom line it’s his team.

Plus a deep jump ball 3 times a game good for at least one interception.

Queen has been a problem all season. He is the lowest ranked LB in the NFL with starter level snaps. His cap hit next season is north of $17M. Something's gotta give cause the guy is not worth anything close to that amount.

Coaching is the most important factor IMO. When the players fail, I still lay much of the blame on coaching rather than the players. My gold standard for why leadership matters is very simple. A commander I had in the military who was probably the best leader I have ever had left our unit to go take over a bigger unit. He had them for about a year and was deployed to a combat zone. He was in the same place, doing the same mission as many other units before and after him. He is the only commander to bring all of his troops home. He did not play it safe and his time there was no easier than anyone else's. The difference was his leadership. He developed his Soldiers to be leaders. He empowered them to make not just decisions, but the right decisions. A great leader can lift any organization to greater heights. It could be in the military, the business world, or in sports.

Hard to make a case to keep him when the defense seems to get worse each year under his leadership........and their level of performance compared to the amount of money they are being paid is just criminal. Highest paid defense by a huge margin and they rank at the bottom. You would think they should be at least the middle of the pack for that money.

Maybe he is just a scapegoat for Tomlin.....but either way, he is in season 4 I think and his most highly paid defense is trash.

It is always the coaching for any game long deficiency. On an individual play, players can screw it up (like an offsides or a PI). But when it is all game long, that is a coaching issue. Either the scheme, play calling or they have not trained their players well. Our loss against the Bears was a death by a thousand cuts problem IMO. That is a coaching issue.

I was thinking that during the game. The Bears had so many dropped passes and throws that just missed. It was a close game, but it should have been a blowout.
