It is absolutely fair to judge how he played under adverse circumstances. It balances out the times he got to play with an advantage, such as playing a half against the worst defense in the NFL this past Sunday.

If he was the starter going into that game , I would agree, but he wasn't, and we know since the season has started he has gotten very little reps with the starting O, nor was the game plan put together with thoughts of him. I don't think he's awesome, but I think he can give You what Rodgers has given in the last 3 games since he had become scared in the pocket

I don't know if the "our coaches suck" talk is wrong as much as it is an oversimplification. I think they have position coaches who are totally the wrong choices for teaching and installing the system they want to play on both sides of the ball. Is the current OL coach an idiot because we have watched his unit underperform for multiple games spanning several seasons. There are times when clearly they are confused about who should do what. They also had some good situational coaches who can think and adjust on their feet but who are train wrecks in planning pregame. At this point in time I'd rather have a staff closer to Lombardi and the we are going to practice this play until we have it perfected than the blob they do now where its well it will work on game day attitude.

    I respectfully disagree.
I don't think the whole of our coaching is the best, but they are way better than people give them credit for.
Just make a list to yourself of the players that have played here, and left, and look at what the difference in just that.
Hell look no farther then just Justin Fields for a small example. He played well enough here (with our so called dumb coaching)that many many people ,fans of the Steelers, fans of football in general, and the media thought he had turned his career around. He has now been benched.
Let's add old a$$ Wilson...with both Qbs we went 10 -7, and made the playoffs. Since they both left they have a combined record of 1-9 right now, and both have been benched. I can make a very large list, these are just a small example.
Again I don't think we have the number one coaching staff, but we are far , far , far better than most want to admit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't you mentioned that sometimes a backup quarterback has an advantage because the opponent hasn't prepared for him? Even if that wasn't you, that is still a valid argument.

Don't get me wrong. I think Rudolph can be better than what Rodgers was the last three games, mostly because Rodgers was horrible against the Chargers and not much better in the first half against the Bengals. I would rather see him out there than an injured Rodgers.

I simply find it funny that with some folks here, there is always an excuse when Rudolph fails, but there is never any good fortune involved when he succeeds.

    Is there an actual update?

Landry Jones won a game or 2 as a backup. Doesn't mean he needed to start once Ben was ready to play.

The Jets are a special level of awful. I would consider that an outlier.

Wilson is a year older, which matters when you are talking about a player his age, and the sample size is tiny. He started three games this season. He was great in one of them and sucked in the other two.

I agree with your overall point that the Steelers' coaching staff is better than they get credit for being, but you use some really shaky examples to back it up.

1st. Yes I have said that, and it's true.
2nd. Although it helps playing against a team that wasn't ready for You, it also helps the Qb to actually have a game plan for them.
    3rd. He is 9-4-1 as a Steeler.
No he isn't awesome, but the way Rodgers has been playing lately, it would be better than that, or at worst, the same. I actually believe if He played the Chargers game we would have had a better chance at winning.

Of course he wants to play, but they shouldn't let him in my opinion.
You already have a guy who is scared to stand in the pocket, and get hit to deliver a ball, a guy who has already fumbled the ball when getting hit, and now he's going to magically not get hit anymore, and if he does, how does he protect himself, and the ball with one good arm???
Let him sit until he's better. We still have 7 games, and the playoffs.

His teams are 9-4-1 in his starts as a Steeler. Players don't win games by themselves. Also, if we're going to look that far back, include his entire career to give a complete picture. His teams' actual record in games that he started is 9-8-1.

He was prepared as a backup. The Bengals weren't prepared for him. That evens out, so we are back to Rudolph getting to play a half against the league's worst defense. He really has had some good fortune in facing bad defenses. Five of his 18 career starts have come against the Bengals. That doesn't even include the half against them Sunday.

It is possible he could have given the Steelers a chance against the Chargers, but that's an assumption. To be fair, the bar set by Rodgers that night was very low.

Is He 9-4-1 with the Steelers, or not?? Since I didn't say He was the only reason, all the crap you just wrote was a waste of time. I could do this with every record by every Qb in the history of the NFL. LoL

Also I'm not saying he can't play, I'm suggesting it's not a great Idea with a guy that has fumbled 3 time while getting hit when he had two good wrist. Now he has one???

So no snaps under center in practice. That is not good for this late in the week.

"Individual Reps from the gun." So no team reps at all, or just not reporting on what happened with team reps???

Again pulling **** out of your ass. Mason has had four starts against Bengals in his career and is 2-2. Two in 2019 where he was 1-1. He also had his worst game in his career against the Bengals after the Myles Garrett controversy against the Browns a game prior. He threw 4 interceptions and was benched that game. Without that game and game prior, his passer rating would be in mid 90's instead of mid 80's So he hasn't feasted on the Bengals. The next against start against the Bengals was in 2023 where he crushed them. He played again against the Bengals in 2024 and scored 27 points, but Titans gave up 35 or something and he got a L in his W/L record.

No, he's not. The team is 9-4-1 in games he started. No player wins or loses games by himself. You are trying to manipulate the numbers by ignoring what he did last season.
