The defensive performance had no say over the win?

Not trying be a d'ck, but people like to give all the credit to the QBs.

Of course. But comparing QB to QB. Mason has the edge.

    Mason
    - 2 drives and scored on both.
    - killed the clock more per drive
    - - one was 7 and half minutes. The other was 6 minutes.
    - more plays on each drive. 12 and 15.

    Rodgers
    - 2 scoring drives
    - 3 drives that resulted in a punt
    - no drive of 10 plays or more
    - longest drive 5 minutes and 4:48. But then two drives about 1 minute and a half. And the other 3 minutes.

One other note.... when did defense have heart :hehehe:

That said, it doesn’t matter who’s playing QB if our WRs can’t start creating more separation. This offense is sorely missing a legit #2 WR which is a major achilles heel. Mason did his job today but let’s not pretend he’s the 2nd coming. I’m sorry, I just can’t get there yet.

What I'm saying is that they keep QB won loss records. Since Rodgers started the game he gets credited with a win.

He was solid in one half against the worst defense in the league. The only thing that might make him better than Rodgers is if the Rodgers we saw the last two weeks is the one we were going to see the rest of the season.

No, it doesn't. It shows that Rudolph can put up solid numbers against terrible defenses or defenses sitting many of their key starters. The Bengals stunk on defense then, too. The Seahawks couldn't stop the run and gave up over 200 yards on the ground that day. The Ravens were sitting guys.

Now look at what he did with the Titans. Any time he doesn't have the far better team around him, things go sideways. That is exactly what the Steelers will be facing in quite a few of their remaining games.

MR is now a legit NFL backup QB. Vs the Bears we will probably go MR#1 with WH#2 unless ARod does not actually have a broken wrist. Find out later today.

Rodgers. He started the game, so the victory goes on his record. The Steelers were also leading by four when he left the game.

He also threw four touchdown passes, including a go-ahead score with 2:21 remaining, in the first meeting with the Bengals. One of his two interceptions in that game was a perfectly-thrown ball to Metcalf that the receiver failed to control cleanly, allowing a defender to rip it away.

Rudolph led the Steelers' offense to 10 points in a half against the league's worst defense and you are losing your mind over it.

Gabriel wasn't doing much of anything. Sure, he wasn't quite as putrid as Sanders, but the Browns were ahead in that game due to a pick-six and a muffed punt that gave them the ball at the Ravens' six-yard line.

Please provide your evidence of the Steelers playing with more heart and how it relates to Rudolph taking the snaps. You can't because it doesn't exist.

This is like Yankees fans making up the Captain Intangibles silliness in their devotion to Derek Jeter. They want to make him out to be better than what he was, so they make stuff up.

I saw all his games as Titan’s starter. They were already out of the playoffs and players had given up. The play calling when he became qb was atrocious as Callahan insisted on establishing the run game and they almost always ran on first down. Their best receiver Calvin Ridley kept dropping passes and OL had holding penalties it seemed on every drive that stalled progress. Callahan should have been fired last year, but he did get fired early this year when he couldn’t do anything with first overall pick Cam Ward. Callahan messed up Will Levis, didn’t do Mason any favors and was terrible with Cam Ward. Sometimes it is the coaching.

Sometimes, the 30-year-old back up is a 30-year-old backup.

Did you count yesterday's game in that? Officially, that victory goes to Rodgers, not Rudolph.

If those are the official numbers, that would mean Rudolph's teams are 4-7-1 against every team other than the Bengals and he has a 22-18 touchdown-to-interception ratio against the rest of the league.

Rudolph has proven over his career that he is a 0.500 QB. That's about the best you can hope for with a backup QB.

And I stand corrected on his games with pass attempts >25. He's 6-8-1, so not terrible but not a gamechanger.

Rodgers AND Masons stats are prty much the same in this game, with Mason having the higher passer rating

PFF has an objective measure of heart. It’s only slightly less subjective than their pass rush win rate calculation.

Rodgers was solid and giving us our best QB play since Ben for a good chunk of the season. He started having issues vs. the Colts and then fully imploded vs. the Chargers. It was great seeing Rudolph play well yesterday, but he needs to do a lot more to get to the level of play that we were getting from Rodgers earlier in the season.

Don't forget Warner,Favre(with the vikings) and Manning

But you are right that current Rodgers is not much better that Rudolph....I hope the steelers will stop signing washed QB or QB who are not good....I am afraid the steelers will try to have Cousins or Murray in the next offseason

Again, the Bengals probably didn't gameplan for him. And coming into a second half is different than starting the whole game.

No team is going anywhere significant with Mason Rudolph as a starting QB.

I hear ya. I was referring to more recent players.... but yes, Warner got back to the Super Bowl, Manning won SB with Broncos and Favre got to NFC Championship.
