I'd be stunned if the Steelers could get a bag of used footballs for Slay. Worst CB on maybe the worst secondary in the league.

I remember many Steelers fans wanting to draft him. I don't keep up with the Raiders at all. That article talked about him getting benched. He was giving up pressures and hits from what I understand from it.

They need to trade for Waddle. Make it happen.

We can add all the offensive weapons we want but our D is a total **** show. We wasted money on Heyward and TJ. Total tear down in that department is coming so adding more offensive weapons won't matter if we keep giving up 30 points.

Damn, do you trust anyone reporting? I see Brooke Pryor a lot on the national media circuit.

    https://www.steelernation.com/2025/10/29/steelers-stunning-trade-star-cornerback
On Wednesday, Steelers insider Brooke Pryor revealed in her ESPN article that Slay may now be on the trade block.

Actually, Slay's $10 million contract included and $8.7 million in Singing Bonus money, so the team getting him would only have to pay about 600K, leaving the Steelers to pay the balance. Khan really screwed the pooch on this contract. Slay really bent Khan over on this deal.

In 2025, Slay will earn a base salary of $1,255,000, a signing bonus of $8,745,000

She covers Pittsburgh for ESPN. The aggregators always twist it a bit, though, to make it more clickable. This is what she wrote, pretty much a statement of facts no inside information, actual mention of a trade, etc.:

Who could be on the move? Cornerback Darius Slay. He was part of the Steelers' secondary overhaul in the offseason, but he hasn't panned out. Slay, who won a Super Bowl with the Eagles a year ago, has been a significant part of recurring issues like missed tackles, miscommunication and being out of position. Against the Packers this past Sunday, Slay was replaced by Brandin Echols at times in the second half. -- Brooke Pryor

The secondary would be pretty good, if it was 2019 instead of 2025. They signed a bunch of guys on the wrong side of 30, and all of a sudden the law of the Serengeti kicks in. An animal that is half a step slower doesn’t eat, or is eaten.
Looks like Khan will be eating some salary to move or release Slay, who is the oldest and has not set the world on fire. I doubt anyone will take on that contract without the Steelers paying off some of it. They need to get younger and faster in the secondary, and you can do that in three ways. 1) the draft, which is a long way off, 2) trade, in which case you give up some draft capital, probably for a malcontent who you hope will be productive/guy on an expiring contract, or 3) free agent signing.

Kahn apparently didn't learn his lesson from the Patrick Peterson signing.. now they're trying to use Slay as a scapegoat for the defensive communication issues? For the record, Slay is completely washed up and probably shouldn't even have a roster spot.. but the communication issues continuing after overhauling the secondary points the blame squarely back at coaching.

How did Slay go from being a solid part of the Eagles' defense last year to completely useless that quickly?

I don't see Omar making any deadline deals.
There are some to be had.

The Jets will purge a few players to get picks to retool yet again..
Quinnen Williams and Allen Lazard are potential trade targets.
WR Lazard is probably the cheaper option, we've only needed one for 2 years........ Lazard took a pay cut to stay with the Jets....
Quinnen Williams would give us a young inside lineman to pair with Harmon... Omar could trade Cam to a contender and recoup some losses.

Eagles might still part ways with Brown but I don't see that as a good deal. Age.

Miami will probably sport a trade or two... Not sure who.
Waddel is a smallish WR but an upgrade over Austin. At 26, we'd maintain youth and have a proven starter to invest in.

Saints might sport a trade for Chris Olave.

I just don't think Omar can pull it off.
He got the Safety only because he had to.
