Skylar Thompson on IR?

He could not have got a splinter holding a clipboard, since they use i-pads. What is going on?

 

Thompson (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.

Thompson popped up on the Steelers' injury report with a hamstring injury prior to their Week 1 win over the Jets, and the issue now appears serious enough for him to land on IR. Pittsburgh's emergency third quarterback will now miss at least four games, with his earliest possible return coming in Week 7 against the Bengals. With rookie Will Howard (hand) also on IR, the Steelers' quarterback room now consists of just Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph.

 

That was my initial thought also. At any rate. I think Thompson and Howard should be ranked above Mason Rudolph. JMO.

 

Not trying to guess if there was initial strategy, except Howard's initial injury and IR status did give them that option after 4 weeks, that almost looks like it will happen now.

 

They put Thompson and Harrison on IR but both are eligible to come back in 4 weeks.

Yeah, but Howard isn't eligible to return until Oct. 12 against the Browns. So this seems a legitimate injury-motivated move.

They'll most likely bringing somebody else up to be the emergency QB.

 

There is no point in bringing Howard back they aren't going to play him, they would feel more comfortable with Thompson if he had to go into the game.

 

Thompson will be back in 4 weeks they aren't going to carry 4 QBs.

 

Whos the emergency 4th string Qb?

Wheres George Plimpton when you need him?

 

It's actually four games. Not nitpicking, it's just that the four weeks/four games distinction comes into play with the Steelers on bye week in Week 5.

 

That sounds about right....

 

If AR goes down for a few weeks or more it wont matter whos playing Qb.

(Mason had a good 4 game run a couple years ago here but our D and O line might be worse since then).

 

Did a quick check. It was Logan Woodside.

 

Call JPL/NASA - maybe they can lend us Professor Dobbs for a few weeks if it doesn't conflict with his JWST rendezvous or backup duties with the Pats.

 

Logan Woodside to the rescue, but on PS, not 53 man roster.

 

Teams can call players up from the PS three times before they have to be offered a contract. If Howard is progressing well, they likely are planning to just bounce Logan up from the squad a few times to cover until Howard's return.

 

woodside will be useful as the 3rd for a couple of weeks.

 

Would be great if Howard was ready to come back to the 53 to work with Rodgers.

As far as Thompson goes I was hoping they would be able to trade him. If he goes on the PS someone will claim him eventually.

So for now we have Woodshed as the #3
