If it was all on the OL coach, all of our new guys would suck, and they don't.

I thought Peat did not look good in Preseason, but what do I know. Trai Essex loved what he saw from Peat this preseason.

Steelers' Andrus Peat Seriously Putting Coaching Staff On Notice: "Really Stood Out"
"Hey y’all, ANDRUS PEAT balled out! #68 was by far the best lineman on the field, albeit against the backups," Essex shared in a social media post to his followers on X. "That said, everyone needs to watch how he went about his job on Saturday. It really stood out in a great way. His hands were violent, and his feet were moving like pistons."

Thing about placing Broderick Jones in at LG is the fact that his technique will be further exposed than it already is at LT. See, the aspect about playing Tackle vs Guard boils down to two different but critical aspects; the amount of space an Offensive Lineman has available to him and the amount of time he has to react against his opposition.

For an hyper athletic Offensive Lineman like BroJo, having him at Offensive Tackle is his best bet; doubly so given his tardiness to fire off his hands when engaging contact. The amount of space he has to mitigate this mitigates his shortcomings based on how fast and how quick he can initiate first strike against his opponent on the edge. Inside though?! Broderick would stand no chance.

As the amount of space is decreased for an Offensive Guard to maneuver, the amount of time he will have to will engage his opponent is increased. Long story short?! Broderick already has issues with both timing and placement of his hands usage as an OT. No matter how athletic he is, opposing IDLs will maul him alive if he converts to OG.

As it stands?! Broderick is going to have to step it up in the coming weeks. As many of us have stated before, Broderick is the X Factor of the 2025 Pittsburgh Steelers. Should he fail?! This team is going to potentially cap size with him.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that Jones has a between-the-ears problem, not coaching one. He doesn't play with any kind of 'edge' like the best OTs in the league. Maybe not a fair comparison, but when you watch a guy like Frazier on his blocks, then watch Jones, it's like night and day. Jones struggles to engage, struggles to finish consistently.

Meyer is under contract for the 2025 season. That's it. He best not be retained after this year. But is there trust that Bags Tomlin will hire a better option? For that matter Bags needs to give up being the defensive coordinator and hire one to revamp and bring in a fresh approach and not just be a puppet in Austin. They had Flores in the building. Fail.

After watching Jones stink it up on the right side it sure has carried over to the left. He was responsible for 3 sacks. If this keeps up Rodgers won't make it out alive. I can see them putting a tight end on that side to hide his deficiencies going forward until he proves he can handle the position.

During an appearance on the 93.7 The Fan Show, former Steelers offensive lineman Trai Essex said some concerning things about Jones's performance against the New York Jets. There is a lot to fix, and it seems like there might not be any solutions to the young tackle's woes. The player fell flat on his face once again, and time is running out on his NFL career at this pace.

Essex summed up Jones's performance pretty easily,
"Not good. There's not much more you can say. That performance left a lot to be desired, and it's troubling."

Essex also stated at times it looked like Jones didn't belong in the NFL.

    it's not exactly that simple.

we have played OL musical chairs with this kid for 3 years, going on 4.

Had NO IDEA what we wanted to do w him - and Dan Moore this and that......

OL was neglected FAR TOO LONG. Never should have drafted Najee that year, OL was the #1 need that year too.

I am not giving up on him......yet.

if by week 4, he is still getting demolished, then we need to make a change.

For the millionth time all the good first round type of OL were gone when Najee got drafted that year.

I wouldn’t call him hyper athletic OL. Yes, he ran a sub 5.0 40yd so he’s track fast for a big man. He also put up 17 reps on the bench so he’s also WEAK for a 6’5” 300lb OL. Our Star WR put up 27 reps on the bench. He still has slow feet and can’t match the quickness of OLBers and Good DE. He’s weak and can’t handle strong DE. Myley Garrett is going to DESTROY him and kill Rodgers and take would be true if he had decent technique which he DOES NOT have!!

The only reason I even suggested a move to OG is because he’d be flanked by the OC & OT BUT a strong DT will Bull rush him .

We can blame Meyer all we want but we should be blaming those who decided to draft him in the first place. They drafted him because we were in desperate need of a OT, he was very young and fast track speed, Plus Darnell Wright was off the board. They Reached, BIG TIME!!!

Peat was a probowl LG and played some LOT… yes he isn’t what he was but on one leg he’s still better than Jones. I had high hopes for him but after watching that jets game, he has no Business protecting Rodgers Blind side!!!

Considering he received a 9.56 RAS Score from Kent Lee Platte. That officially places him within the Top 15% of all Offensive Tackles currently in Football. It isn't that big of a stretch to say he is Hyper athletic.

Regarding the move to OG, my post wasn't targeted directly at you or any other individual. My post is a rebuttal as to why the switch to Offensive Guard wouldn't aid him. I had already outlined as to why placing Broderick at Left Guard would ruin him even more.

Finally, I, along with many, have wanted Pat Meyer gone for a while now. That said, solely placing the blame on Pat Meyer is unfair to him. Remember that Tomlin has had a recent propensity to place players in unwinnable situations; Benton at NT, Yahya Black at DE, DeMarvin Leal at.... who knows where and so on. Versatility is a good thing but only if the player is capable of doing so. If he isn't, don't make him something he is not.

Long story short?! The combination of Mike Tomlins musical chairs of Brodericks Position, Meyers inefficient teaching methods and Brodericks lackadaisical nature are all why Broderick is what he is at present. There are more multiple layers than this but these are the top three. However, Broderick himself needs to apply himself even more. If he cannot, he is not fit to be an NFL Offensive Lineman; much less a player.

Creed Humphrey and Landon Dickerson were not though.

Tomlin and Colbert both met with both at their respective Pro Days; Creed I believe even receiving a Zoom Call no less.

If the others continue to ascend?! Those of us, myself included, will ready up some apology letters for Pat Meyer. As for Broderick Jones?! If he cannot improve?! Bench his ass.

    Yep.

Yet another example of tape measurements being nonsensical to determining talent. For that matter, Von Miller is a little over 6'3 and barely hits 240lbs on a good day. Dude is still a HOF Player.

Hell, Aaron Donald may just be the greatest disrupting 3 Tech DT of all time.... at 6'1 and 285lbs..

Most people didn't have either one of them going in the first round, especially Dickerson he had a few serious knee injuries in college.

Fair enough on Landon. Pretty sure there were a couple outlets who were very high on Creed though.

That said, the fact that the Steelers needed a Center over a Running Back still doesn't detract from the fact that Creed and Landon were available.

Back then Tomlin/Colbert went to the pro day of their first round pick, they didn't attend Creed's pro day.

    https://steelersdepot.com/2023/03/2023-draft-ot-prospects-relative-athletic-scores-ras/

We gotta be careful with things like RAS scores. His score is skewed due to his elite speed in the 40 and 10 yd split. His explosion and agility scores tell the rest of the story. Also remember his a bit small for an OT and Weak!!!

Even with his skewed RAS score and it’s high number it still placed him at the bottom of the top 33%.

I totally agree about how the coaching staff is doing and Jones lack of commitment or so it seems.

This is his 3rd year. He shouldn’t be this bad as a top 15 draft pick . Kahn’s 1st draft pick is a bust.

Jones will be on the bench by week 6 at this point. Shameful on both the player and coaches.
