I said all offseason long that Fields could have a very good year with the Jets and it was stupid by Tomlin to handcuff Fields last year, only to then bench him for a washed quarterback

He's off to a very good start and this could haunt the Steelers for a long time(if today is the norm for Fields if the steelers can't find the QB of the future for the next few years

It's possible that Rodgers will be great this year, but the problem is, he'll only be with us for one season... We could have our future QB in Fields if Tomlin had given him a real chance last year instead of constantly telling him to avoid turnovers at all costs... Today he completed several key passes over the middle of the field that he wouldn't have attempted last year under Tomlin.

I don't take his years in Chicago seriously... Their coaching staff, as we saw last year, was simply atrocious.

It’s a joke that we went with Russ over him. Terrible decision. But, let’s let Fields go for the whole season before we start to freak out. I think Fields is better than we gave him credit for, but he has to sustain that level of play before we deem him “for real”.

Over react much? Our D did nothing to stop him, he executed well. Get a few games under the season and we will see, perhaps you are right...but at that time please take it to the proper forum.

I made these same comments during the offseason, so no, this isn't an overreaction.

I also mentioned that if today is the norm for Fields....

Fields was missing open guys for us last year.. he won some games, but it was still a struggle on offense when he was in there... it wasn't just scheme.. Let's wait and see how the season plays out before anointing him.

Eh, it’s Steeler related… especially when we literally just played against his team. The rest of the season can go in the general NFL.

Eh, no it's not. There are 2 threads posting right now about this game, one on the game time thread and another that is usually posted on specific things about the game, some of those even include things on Fields. This thread is not remotely Steelers related, it is about a Jet QB.

Actually i am pretty lax on this type of posting, but the season has started, this is Steelers football, not Jets players who used to play for the team. lol

Justin Fields’ performance today was a product of having a running game. That’s something the Steelers definitely need to develop or it’s going to be a lot of pressure on Rodgers

He looked good, was making throws but this was a typical Fields game overall. Around 200 yards passing and running for a couple of scores.

When he starts throwing 275-300 yards on a regular basis, we’ll know the Steelers screwed up.

I don’t expect the Jets to put up that many points each week, I’m assuming other teams defenses will show up for the game. If they do score like that on a regular basis, that’s another way to measure if the Steelers chose wrong.

It really helps a running game when you have a dual-threat quarterback if of course this is used correctly. The Bears had the number 1 running game few years ago with Fields and they did not have a elite running back that year

Dude is a beast in the redzone. Seeing him drive the ball down the middle was eye opening.

Let’s hope we can find the right guy in the draft so we don’t have to debate this for years

He had accuracy issues last year. If he stuck with us he’d still have accuracy issues and would look much the same as he did last year: a run first Qb with bad accuracy.

It looks like the jets were able to help him with his passing issues in the offseason and training camp. Not sure we could.

Well, when the Steelers play his team it is Steelers related… is it not? Fields played against the Steelers and played quite well. I’d be agreeing with you if it continues when Fields is playing the Bills next week. But he’s a former Steeler, that was offered a Steelers contract in the offseason, who just played against the Steelers. No reason to hall monitor this one. It’s Steelers related enough to be fine this week imo.

We have a thread on which QB will be benched first this season that is in Steelers chat (likely pertaining to ex-Steeler Wilson). Not sure why that one is okay and this one isn’t?

He also threw into some tight windows, that were miraculously converted into 1st downs that padded his stats. Also slipped a couple of our sloppy tackling for positive yardage. Combination of his good play, our bad luck, and our sloppy fundamentals

I guess you missed how the offense immediately got much better when they replaced him with Wilson last season.

It is very easy to play quarterback in the NFL when your offensive line is dominating the way the Jets dominated the Steelers today. The Steelers couldn't stop the run at all and they often gave Fields all day to throw. He has had great games in the NFL before. He just doesn't do it often enough.

Fields was spectacular today no doubt about it but Rodgers was equally good. The difference was the fumble on the kickoff by the Jets.

I think the Jets were pumped up and played their best possible game IMO. Their coach did great getting them ready, but they are just not a playoff team.

Jets wanted it more, but they lost anyway. Usually, the team that wants it more wins, not to mention controlling the line of scrimmage and running for a ton of yards usually wins.

We beat the odds winning like we did.

Let's see Fields play a game they don't have the whole off season to game plan for , and when his team isn't rushing for 20 yards a clip. Then come back to me. Even with all that, he only had 1 td pass, and 1 td run.

Exactly if we had Fields today with this same game, does anyone actually think he could have kept us in the game with 4 td passes???
    Anyone?????
1st. This is the only game they will play this year that they had a whole off season to prepare for.
    2. They won't run 20 yards a carry on everyone, and....
    3. Rodgers threw 4, and the D knew we had to throw it.

Week 2 will be different for sure. However, Fields played very well today. We won on a 60 yard FG. We played well today also. It was a great game. I really enjoyed that.

Rodgers scored 4 tds today. The most for any QB in all of todays games.
