I’m reasonably optimistic about this season, provided Rodger’s can stay healthy. That’s a big (if) provision though, especially at his age.

Anyone else here buying in ?

Of course there are a lot of ifs with Rodgers. Not only about him staying healthy as it relates to his age, but him continuing to be positive. I'm just hoping he has one more above average season in him. Meaning, I'm cautiously optimistic.

We just watched our starting Defense get beat by not the Patchers 1st string QB, Not the Panthers 2nd string QB, but by Jack Plumber. And no that is not the old man Jake Plumber.

Tomlin said the Steelers were sitting 4 starters for the game.
The Panthers sat 32 players for the game, and at the end of the half it was a tie ballgame. If our defense and offense are this bad, I don't see how this team does not finish last in the division. I can't say the Panthers were sitting their starters last night, because it was more like they were sitting their active roster last night.

Going into last night's game the Panthers had played 2 preseason games and were out scored 50-13.

Honestly, I saw a ton of business decisions by the first team defense. They definitely didn't want to be on the field last night. Just arm tackle after arm tackle. I'm hoping this doesn't translate to week 1.

    Skylar Thompson.

    MR G1 9/10, 84 yards, 1 td, 0 int, 135.0 rate
    ST G1 20/28, 233 yards, 3 td, 0 int, 132 rate

    MR G2 3/5, 46 yards, 1 td, 1 int, 90.4 rate
    ST G2 10/15, 113 yards, 0 td, 1 int, 61.2 rate

    MR G3 6/8, 36 yards, 0 td, 1 int, 43.8 rate
    ST G3 11/13, 152 yards, 1 td, 0 int, 141.0 rate

I think that the team is high on Howard. So many positive things said about him from everyone around him. He is not going anywhere. We are not going to have 4 qbs. So, we go into the season with AR, Howard, And ?. From history, Rudolph had several chances to be a starter with the Steelers and he was the starter for the Titans. He has never been consistent enough to keep a starter's job. So, it becomes a question of who has the greater upside, Mason or Skylar? MR has more experience in the NFL and specifically with the Steelers. Not much upside to him. He is going to be a 50/50 QB. Win some, lose some. What is Sklar's upside? Hard to say.

I think that they will probably back up our soon to be 42 year old QB with someone that has some experience, meaning MR. But....I would not be shocked if the Steelers let MR go and keep Skylar. I thought that the game against the Panthers really showcased who has the better arm and that would be Skylar.

I am on board from the first day of the draft all the way till the final seconds count down to elimination. I honestly don't understand all the hand wringing and crying over what might happen or might not happen. There are 17 games in a season but lose just one and some act like they got a terminal diagnosis or something. I just don't get you guys.
Then, there are those of us having fun win or lose, because this is a game, a distraction, a hobby at best. Post your game day meals, post a photo of your dog in a Steelers jersey, root for your team, but don't let it consume your joy with real life. Or, take the place of it.

Lace 'em tight, play through the whistle!!

Let's GO!!!!! Kick off time!!!! :steelflag:

I’m big on Howard so I sure hope you’re right. Skylar Thompson has really impressed me. My concern is Howard somehow goes because it’s like you said. No way we keep 4 QBs. MR has had his opportunities. It would be Howard and Thompson if I had to choose.

It was a shame the way the game opened up with Warren running up the middle for about 8 yards, and then a quick holding penalty and it was 1st and 20. Mason converted a couple 1st downs, but then came another holding penalty and the Steelers punted.

The Int by Mason was bad because he just didn't see the defender. It wasn't a great effort for the DB, he was just there in his zone spot and Mason just missed seeing him. I bet Mason was watching the TE come across the field and never took his eyes off his target to check the other side of the field.

Mason deserves to be the backup with Skylar making the team at the #3 spot. The only real bad thing about the Steelers putting Will Howard on IR before the cutdown to 53 is he will be on IR all season long and will not be allowed to practice with the team at all during the season. Your young QB is not going to get any better if he can't practice.

The way the Steelers are holding onto their 2026 draft picks, means to me that they are considering everyone in the QB room to be expendable for the 2026 season. It would not be a total shocker if the Steelers were to trade away a 6th or 7th round pick for another QB with a higher potential than Mason/Skylar/Will. Someone that is being unloaded because they have just lost their starting job, and the team doesn't want him around anymore. Anthony Richardson???

Keep in mind before his injury I really wanted the Steelers to offer a late round pick for Will Levis. :)

Edit: LOL... I guess I am not the only one.

With Richardson’s role in Indianapolis suddenly uncertain, Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News named the Steelers as the top destination for Richardson, fueling speculation that the former first rounder could be had for as little as a third round pick.

Howard’s “earliest” return would be Aug 26, one day before final cuts on Aug 27. The expectation is the 6th round rookie makes the 53 man roster.

Against a team playing 3rd and 4th string players as their TOP 32 players sat in sweats on the sideline.

 And I just need 1; thought about posting 32 of these for all the Panther Players that they sat last night. :)

I wouldn't want Anthony Richardson if he volunteered to play for free.

Hey I am worried about Slay losing the battle to father time this year.

Did you know Slay and Patrick Peterson will both be 35 years old when the Steelers play Baltimore in Week 17?

Not sure they have the roster depth to be dark horses. Injuries are going to happen

The Defence would need to have a huge season and the Oline would need to come together as the season goes on. Even then I think the build on offence is very fragile if Metcalf is taken away by the opposing D. It’s such a pity that Pickens was a head case and had to go

True, but the older guys are running up a down escalator. The odds skew against them.

Look anything can happen, but offering anything for him would be criminal. On this suppoesed 'all in' season, you don't get much with either Howard or Skylar how might have to start if the 1 and 2 go down, but at least you have guys who have played in the system. If they are that intrigued after the season and he is sitting there and they sign him like they did Haskins, nothing ventured nothing gained.

Not sure why people are concerned with AR’s health. He tore his Achilles a couple years ago, but that happens to the fittest athletes. See Kobe Bryant, Jason Tatum, Tyrese Haliburton… He always struck me as someone who takes care of his body similar to Brady. Yes he’s old, but he’s still better than many of the starting QBs today
