    Buy or Sell......

The Pittsburgh Steelers would have won a Super Bowl with Kordell Stewart, had Chan Gailey been the OC for his entire career.

I am going to buy this.

When Chan Gailey left the Steelers, Bill Cowher made one of the biggest mistakes of his coaching career. Ray Sherman was hired as OC in 1998, and the Steelers offense completely fell apart after going to the AFCC with Gailey in 1997. After Sherman was fired, Kevin Gilbride was considerably better. But Kordell didn't match his level of play from 1997 until Mike Mularkey came around in 2001.

Bettis was still in the prime of his career in the late 90s. Even if the Steelers hadn't won a Super Bowl with the Gailey/Stewart combo, they would have been much more competitive than they were in 98,99, and 2000.

Would Steelers offense been better in '98 and '99... yeah, maybe slightly with Gailey. But Steelers were hemmoraging free agents at this time...losing Thigpen, Searcy, etc. This took a toll on the offense. I don't think Walsh in his prime would have done much with what Steelers had to work with during the late 90's on offense. Thank the lords for Heinz Field in 2001... it made the Steelers competitive again in free agency.

Troy Edwards and Courtney Hawkins were our best WRs in 1999... and Ward was emerging in the background.

Steelers also lost Charles Johnson, a good WR for Steelers after '98. Ernie Mills? I think he ended up on Cowboys.

I don't think so but Kordell would been much better in 1998 to 2000.Maybe the steelers would make the playoffs at least twice in those years

All true. Maybe a Super Bowl is a bit far fetched. I do think the Steelers would have at least been competitive with Gailey at OC. Who knows, maybe Troy Edwards would have turned into something. He showed flashes.

I was never a Kordell fan

To me he would run at the first sign of pressure and would no longer look down field

Much like Fields and the Wilson at the end

When Ben got away from pressure he was always looked down field until he ran (waddled) out of bounds

Sell. We had the Broncos on the ropes in the AFC title game and were driving for the winning TD against a gassed defense. With first and goal on the five Gailey inexplicably called for Kordell to throw into the end zone and of course it was picked off for his 3rd interception of the game. Bettis was on a roll picking up 5-6 yards a carry on that drive until that ridiculous play call.

Since I'm not going anywhere tonight, I'll play. I think He would have had a better career , but don't think He would have won a SB. People forget, but we played all kinds of gadget plays with Kordell just to win games 9-6, and yet He would still throw the ball in the dirt on a simple dump off. I still to this day believe Ward got so good because of Kordell, and having to catch them behind him, over his head, and dig them out of the dirt. How many times did we hear the Bus say.....we will go as far as Kordell can take us. It always came down to the same thing. When we faced a really good D in the playoffs, and they could take the run away from him, he failed. There was a reason they asked him not to throw down the seam too often. I remember them asking one of Our Ocs, and He said I will tell You after the AFC Championship game if we win the SB, but of course, we never heard. LoL

Difference between most running, and most scrambling Qbs. A running Qb will most of time run as soon at the 1st sign of pressure, and teams know this after awhile, but a scrambling Qb will run mainly to gain more time to throw. That's why one has so many more runs a year compared to the other. Example: Lamar Jackson runs about 144 times on average a year.
Mahomes runs about 60 times a year on average. To the average fan they think they are both running Qbs, but one is a scrambling Qb, and one is a running Qb. The amount of time they actually take off running is the proof.

Sell Kordell was too inconsistent as a passer he should've stayed in that Slash role.

Exactly why Kordell finished his career as a wr
I know how you feel about Lamar, but in all honesty, 10x better than Kordell ever was. And, I am not a fan of Lamar

These are cool topics. It must be this age rang talking about the 90s steelers.

Worst lost ever was Chargers 94 . It's a thorn.
Any good game ? I guess Ben to Santonio .

And Korbell got everyone that cared excited. He blew it in the Afc championship though.

I still believe Chan Gailey was the best OC Steelers had in the last 40 years Just my opinion.
He knew how to call a game.

Kordell was our best option at the QB position at that time.He had also a special regular season in 1997 and his 2001 season was also very good.Unfortunately he struggle in the playoffs and he had a poor OC in 1998

In 1999 and 2000,he did not fit well with the OC too, even if he was better in 2000 that he was the previous 2 years

Not to mention, when he did throw, he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. I can't count how many 10 yard outs he put in the dirt. If it weren't for Bettis, I might've stopped watching completely. The day he was gone, it was such a weight off of my soul. I felt a baby version of that when KP was traded. I'm just now coming down off of that high.:lolol:

I was not a fan of Kordell either. He never really looked like he knew what he was supposed to be doing out there to me. Always seemed confused.

This had to be one of the worst calls made by a Steelers OC of all time. If Bettis gets the ball there, the Steelers go to the Super Bowl. There is no doubt in my mind.
