Tomlin was 1-3 vs John Fox and the QBs in those games for John Fox

Clausen(the only time,Tomlin beat Fox)Tebow,Manning and Glennon.Tomlin is also 0-2 vs Lovie Smith

The titans had some very good years with McNair too, this is after that,Fisher become outdated with only 2 winning season in his final 12 years after 2003

Because he didnt have the most critical piece to advancing to and winning SB’s. No excuse for losing to the Chargers though, Humphries was not a great QB standing in their way.

That his teams did as well as they did all those years without having a franchise QB speaks volumes about how good of a coach he was. Soon as he got Ben, boom, SB. I only wish he was able to stick around a little longer. May be another trophy or two in the case.

And I get what You , and many others are saying, but look at it from Rooneys point of view. Nobody fires HCs for having winning seasons, let alone , never having a losing season, and been to two SB......I'm not sure he wants to be the 1st. I guarantee if Tomlin had few losing seasons already , he would be gone. He has the media, and public opinion to hear about, and people can say that doesn't matter, but how many people have we seen the mob of public opinion destroy???
Reporters: So Mr. Rooney, can you tell us why You fired this man who has been to two SB, and has never had a losing season, and averages about 10. 5 wins a season???
Rooney: Because it's my team , and I wanted to.
Reporter:( No matter what he actually thinks, he must make good click able news) Oh because You wanted to.
    And so on.

Tell me in all Your infinite wisdom what should they be excited about???
    Excited about winning no SB.
Excited that they have a REGULAR season MVP.....no wait REGULAR season doesn't count right???
Excited about what...they win two more playoff games than us , sometimes. Excited that when they play the Chiefs in the playoffs they will go home??
The never had a losing season is not to make excuses, it's to show you that people don't fire HCs for it, but of course that goes over your head.

I agree, but who's fault was that.
I mean if it's Tomlins fault we didn't get Lamar, Hurts, and others that people have said we should have gotten, who's fault was it that Cowher waited so long to get a real Qb???
I'm just playing the Devils Advocate.....I like Cowher.

Give me another 6-10 season like '03 and '99 anytime over the usual 10-7, 9-8 season where Steelers draft around 20 every year.

Steelers are long overdue for a top 10 draft pick.

    Ben hasn't played in awhile.
We've done this with Trubisky, Mason, Pickett, Wilson, and Fields.

You say that now, but I bet money you weren't saying that when we went 6-10.....You were one of the ......Fire Cowher now guys.
    You already admitted it.

No 6-10... no Roethlisberger. It's as simple as that. Steelers would still have only 4 rings.

Yeah, just in 2025,I take a 5-12 season over a 9-10 wins season with a wild card exit at best....Better chance to have a true franchise QB and also better chance to have big change, not only on the players....

If only it was that easy, and I'm not sure we still wouldn't have gotten him. He was the 3rd Qb to go, and others already passed on him, of course some will say the Bills because they drafted the next Qb, but saying Ben for freaking sure would have been their pick is Miss Cleo talk....I do believe the person who likes to say this, is the same person that kept saying Sanders Qb was the next Qb to come off the board this draft, over, and over, only to watch other Qbs go before him.....so his opinion , and belief is not really one I would hang my hat on.
What about the other 6-10....there was no silver lining in that?

Burress was the best WR taken in that draft and he was productive as a Steelers WR.... better than Peter Warrick of Bengals who was taken earlier. Burress, Ward and Randle El was a badass WR corps.

If you go through those drafts, the best QB he could have gotten was Pennington. Who I think would have been a good QB here if he could have avoided the injury bug that plagued him with the Jets. Think he would have fit with Cowher well. But even still, hardly a franchise QB, basically a better version of NOD.

Different situations completely. There was a theoretical chance under Cowher, even it didn't seem likely. There is no chance under Tomlin in this AFC. We aren't close to the Chiefs, Ravens, Bills, or Eagles.

Bill Cowher had a 12-9 playoff record and longest drought was three years in contrast to Mike Tomlin, who has an 8-11 playoff record and hasn't won a playoff game since 2017.

Cowher's Steelers had a young Big Ben, talented core on both sides of the ball, and a team generally trending upward when he retired.

Mike Tomlin's teams have not been trending upwards in the playoffs and now enters the season a 40+ year old QB Rental after a series of bargain bin QB's.

I am not seeing that magical run.

but = part of why he did not have a 'franchise QB' is b/d he did not want one or THINK he needed one.

he / they avoided going that route - instead building in a different way

it was the Chin's thought process

    win with muscle.

    the game was evolving.

    he was not

and AGREED on Chargers - team was hoodwinked - should have hammered them and faced SF that year in the SB. Cowher CHOKED that one big time. Cannot blow those opps......

he was SOOOOO conservative for FAR TOO much of his coaching career. ALMOST CHOKED the Colts AFCCG away......

then he cracks me up when he goes to CBS and becomes Mr. Offensive genius aggressive. He had an apple deeply lodged in his throat WAAAY too much....
