Then you can beat up on your favorite quantum computer instead of a head coach!

New, young upcoming coaches may embrace it but long term coaches aren’t going to hand their game planning over to a computer. The OP underestimates how much A-type personality coaches are.

Similar reason why Walmart just eliminated all their self-check out registers - underestimated the human part of the equation in spite of technology advances (i.e. 5 finger discounts).

Not a fan of going into Walmart's. I had to ring a frigging bell, wait a good 10 minutes for a 900 year old (awesome sweet lady) to unlock a case so I could get a bar of soap. She was best part of trip. I asked her why the lock and key on so many items and she said cause youngsters like you like to steal.:)

In a computer game maybe. AI is very good at flying military stuff, writing ideas into a letter, song, or story. Stuff like that. But 11 men vs 11 men on a football field is not even close to the same thing. I can see it being a helpful tool but not more than that.

Funny part; I was just telling my son tonight about the first video we owned growing up, "Pong". Then we graduated to something that was supposed to look like hockey.
It will happen. And it will happen in your lifetime.

Not anywhere near a Wallymart or Target anymore (talking 150 miles+) but while I always chose/choose self check out, the baby locks on all the merchandise and lack of "old ladies" to unlock them was a killer. I can see small items like chapstick and chewing gum getting relocated to the check out aisles, but soap, shampoo, BO stopper, toothpaste getting locked up? Guess they can store a bunch of goods in those baggy pants and jumbo purses and then ride off in that brand new shiny Escalade.

My State did away with plastic bags. The store we use the most did away with them but also did away with their paper bags which are recyclable. People have to bring in their own bags. They tell me they are getting ripped off big time. I tell them how frigging simple it is to drop a small item in the 5-6 bags I have together in my cart. They say the cost of bags is high but they provide awesome type bags for the customers who use the home shoppers.

A HC will use an AI generated gameplan for a regular season game.

That may have already been done at least to some extent. Some coaches are very tied to analytics, which is the same info set that would be used by AI to develop a game plan.

But, actual on-field and situational football would dictate human decisions being made throughout any game plan. AI or other.

The OP notes that NFL rules ban the use of AI in-game so coach's jobs are safe.

AI will take over window cleaning for my wife. It will give up however once it realizes it is easier to just close the blinds.

AI is only as good as the data it receives. But in football, circumstances, players, their tendencies, change from week to week. There are so many nuances, maybe Rodgers cant run a certain play he was able to run a week or two ago. I just don't see it taking over coaching and game planning, although maybe our coaches could use some of its assistance (couldn't resist)
