Looks like we got Smith from the dolphins as well and made a late rd pick swap

Why would the Steelers give Friermuth a big 4 year contracts and then turn around and acquire Jonnu Smith. Don't get it

I am assuming it means that Smith is going to be used a lot as a "big slot". He will get split out a decent amount, and it also allows us to get more creative with 2 WR 2 TE sets. I don't think its an indictment of Freiermuth at all.

Potentially in some packages, though I think the Steelers can get creative with Ramsey as well. I'd be willing to bet you see Ramsey as a 3rd S in some instances and Slay/JPJ outside. As Ramsey gets older we might see him switch to S full time like Charles Woodson did. Huge speculation on that though. Ramsey is definitely versatile enough to be a slot and 3rd S in a lot of situations.

Smith and Freiermuth fit well with Arthur Smith's 2 TE offense. The search for a #2 WR probably isn't as important now with Jonnu here. Metcalf, Jonnu Smith and Freiermuth give Rodgers 3 gigantic targets. Mix in Wilson, Austin and Woods and things don't look so bad now.

Smith isn't really an inline TE, since the Steelers don't really have WR2 Smith can be a major weapon in the offense.

Interesting that this is the 3rd stint for him playing under Auther Smith. 2023 in Atlanta and previously in Tennessee.

    This is a decent trade.
Minkah hasn't really been anything special and I might argue he's declined.
Smith is a TE that can push 1,000 yards and probably replaces Pat who has under performed - not all due to his part. Smith is slightly smaller and a little quicker...
Ramsey is versatile and can influence Porter and really the entire DB's group. Add in Slay's experience.

Pittsburgh apparently is leaning towards being Defensive which in today's NFL is sort of out of vouge.
There's going to be a lot of pressure on Rogers.
I can see a 2 TE set with Pat and Smith that can force mismatches, and could help the run game.
2 TE sets would benefit especially in absence of a real #2 WR. It might even allow a foothold for one of our nondescript WR's to develop.

If I had to grade this, maybe a B-? Not sure.
I don't think this trade hurts us in the Draft resources, we loose a 5th position and drop to 7th.
    Maybe they trade Pat?
I am not sure what they have planned, that's for sure.

Jonnu caught 88 passes last year for 884 yards and 8 TD's. He definitely isn't here to block, Smith will be our defacto #2 WR.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't roll with they have at WR now after this trade. Let's hope he can put up similar numbers in Arthur Smith's offense.

They shouldn’t have signed Fitz. He’s overrated.

They were probably worried about Minkah's cap hit for the next two years and the lack of splash plays.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Steelers reworked Jonnu's deal he wasn't happy about his current deal in Miami.
