I know some fans are excited to see him play and think he could be the future at QB, like the local media has been saying he was a sixth-round pick for a reason. If he has to play this season it means their season has gone bad or Rodgers and Mason got injured. I think Howard is a good addition to the QB room, but with 12 draft picks next year you still draft a QB in the first round in what is expected to be a loaded QB draft.

No one is going to know how good Howard will be, because he won't see the field this year.

I was hoping the steelers wouldn't sign a one year rental in ARod so we could see what Howard has. As far as drafting a Qb next year the steelers almost have no choice because they won't know if Howard can be the starter.

The only good thing about the one year rental is Howard can learn from him.

Mason signed a two year deal and I doubt he would want to stick around after that. If Howard turns into a solid QB2 after a couple years, that’s great return for a 6th rounder

So will they not be looking at Will Howard in practice, or in the preseason??
Nobody, and I mean nobody knows how good Howard , or any of the Qbs coming out next year will be in the NFL right now.

I’ll bet dollars to donuts we will see a minimum of 3 halves of Howard in the preseason. If we see much more than that things either went exceptionally well in the draft or horribly during the season

Don't get your hopes up even if Howard shows something they should still draft a QB in the first round next year.

I have a good feeling about Howard..... you simply can't overlook his success at 2 different programs....
His place in the draft means absolutely nothing.... not even counting Tom Brady, I can easily name a host of low rd and udfa qb's that have been successful in the league

I love the Howard pick. It allows us to dream that he is the next Brady or Purdy, but expecting anything more than a few years of him being QB3 is highly optimistic.

Good luck to the young man and let’s hope it works out for him. Late round franchise QB’s are incredibly rare however

I agree. The ONLY situation where we don't draft a high QB next year is if Howard ends up as the Starter for 8+ games and shows that he is the future. Lining up the stars for that to happen would take astronomical odds. Draft another next year. If we end up with 2 good QBs on rookie contracts, we can always trade 1 away for some very good draft capitol. Garoppolo pulled a 2nd rounder from the 49ers. I bet that we could crush that trade value with Khan.

How many 6th round or lower Qb’s have gone on to be solid starters? What is that success rate? Bet its pretty low, Brock Purdy comes to mind….

Purdy also benefitted from excellent coaching and a very strong offense. Good O line, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, and Deebo Samuel. Any competent QB would do well with all of that behind him. Had Purdy gone to another team, I doubt he would have seen anywhere near to the same level of success. He benefitted from being in the right place at the right time.....IMO......but good on him, he seized his chance and ran with it.

Staubach was a future selection, teams had to wait four years before he finished his military commitments, not every team wanted to make that commitment, so he slid in the draft.

i’ll give you the rest, so that means Howard has a 10 percent chance of becoming a solid starter…ill buy that.

Yes, I’m fully aware of staubach’s attendance at the United States naval academy. I am also fully aware of his required service. With that out of the way he was still a 10th selection. Period. None of this but, but, but crap yall like to play

Quite low but it does happen. I would like to throw in Kurt Warner since he went undrafted but really, he had a 4x100 relay team at WR, Faulk and a good O line. Hard to mess that up.

    On Howard:

I am all for drafting a QB, but having Howard as insurance means you can take a risk and draft a player like Lanorris Sellers, it gives us less pressure next year in finding that franchise QB. I think Howard can be the starter, and drafting a qb next year will be great for competition
