I think he is pretty right on! I still don't know how people call Rashard a "fumble machine". I think the problem was the timing of the fumbles. However, I seem to be in a minority on that subject.

No issues with the list. Astounding of the entire 2008 draft class is no longer with us.

Damashek's a Steeler's fan, and has our history pretty much nailed.

I'm not sure what the criteria was - I think I would have preferred to have seen some lower round picks (the lesser-sung Steelers heroes in particular), but I seem to remember the series has some rule about only looking at the first three rouds.

2008 was bad. I can't fault them for the Sweed pick. He actually had really good hands in college, and it's hard to predict that a player will completely lose one of the things that makes him an appealing prospect in the first place. He clearly had the ability to be a top WR in terms of getting separation. Hills had potential that I thought, and still think, was appropriate for his draft position. Sometimes players don't make it for whatever reasons. I didn't like the rest of the 2008 draft, and was particularly ticked off at the Bruce Davis pick.

I think the Bruce Davis pick will probably remain one of the worst picks in Steeler history. Rarely, do you find a guy that most of the fan base was scratching their head on but I believe he is one of the chosen few.

I was about to post exactly the same thing.

Poor old Bruce Davis. I'm sure the FO mis-spelled someone else's name on the draft slip by mistake there.

For all the younger fans, 1980 was bad, just because of the QBs we got to watch. I see a lot of Ben bashing and I just shake my head wondering how many of you watched the Steelers in the 80's, to get a good idea of how it was, Neil o'Donnel was the best QB we had after Bradshaw.

I dont agree with Kraig Urbik being a bust, he has started in buffalo for 3 years and just because the steeler coaches didnt groom him into the tackle position wasnt Urbiks fault, a draft bust doesnt go to another team and become a solid starter, I think we had a coaching bust not a player bust in Urbik.

They tried to stash him away on the practice squad and Buffalo jumped all over it. He might not have been totally ready to start for us, but losing him hurt a lot.

I totally agree here. Be glad if you never had to watch Mark Malone, Cliff Stoudt or Bubby Brister lead the offense.

Was thinking the same thing...I thought we as a fan base agreed to never mention those names again. At this time, we all need to renew our Steelers oath of not repeating those names or Superbowl XXX!

I agree with the assessments for the most part.

This was the first thing that stuck out to me when reading the article. You are 100% correct. Urbik is a good player. The coaches just didn't see it. Much like Mike Vrabel.

urbik was the backup at buffalo too, an injury got him into the starting lineup. he's not that great there either. he was doing nothing here for a year and a half. vrabel had entrenched starters in front of him, but he ended up a loss none the less and a good one.

The worst thing was, with each one (not Stoudt - that was just before my time), I would be like: this is the guy. This is definitely the guy.

The sentiment rarely lasted a long time.

I remember thinking that a lot after Bradshaw. But if I'm being honest, it was more like "I hope this is the guy."

Watching those guys would turn your stomach, you can add Stewart to that list as well: We had strong teams in the 90s, good enough Olines, a strong running game with a young bus, a defense second to none, and yet the QB position kept us out of the superbowl untill 95 where O'donnell had brain freeze: There is no doubt, had we drafted Marino in 83, we had the teams to get us at a minimum 2 more superbowl wins, if not 3.......
