I think that with trade time coming up guys may be knuckling down a notch, auditioning for other teams.
And with the starting pitching they have, yes I think they could win three games in a row if they first figure out how to score more than two runs a game.
The 1970s Pirates would have won 120 games with a pitching rotation like this.

No player is doing that and no team is going to enable it. That would give star players too much power.

Why would they do that? Owners are going to do what is best for themselves first, the team second, then the player. Nutting is incredibly selfish. He won't trade Skenes unless it benefits him, and right now, it doesn't.

That sucks. I was hoping to see Skenes, Jones, and Chandler in the rotation together at some point this season. That said, it's well past Bubba time. The Pirates should stop dicking around and bring him up.

The owners are not going to force Nutting to sell. Why should they? He does nothing to stand in their way. In fact, he supports them by allowing his few better players to enter the free-agent market or trades them off cheaply, allowing them to remain competitive. The more the Pittsburgh fans stay away, that's more available seats for the visiting team's fans. I do not see where the players have any juice in the equation either. If they don't play, they don't get paid. The uniform player contracts restrict their ability to move on unless they reach certain service related levels. If they refuse to play, their service time clock stops and they are still stuck in Pittsburgh.

The only way they would force him out is if he pulls Marge Schott like stunts like praising Hitler, or mistreating his minority players like she did. Or, to a lesser extent, mismanaging his organization into the ground like Frank McCort did with the Dodgers, but seeing as how the Pirates are not a premier location marquee franchise like LA, that's probably not going to happen.

Has the thrill of PNC died down? Other team fans still flocking? I get that fans from other teams that are close to Pittsburgh will show up but I would think fans from far away already made their journey. I remember both times I went back, I had fans from Montreal (Expos) all around me and then the White Sox the year after they won WS I sat with their damn fans all around me.

Your right, Nutting family is making great money and ain't going anywhere. Lease expires in 5 years. 5 nasty years of Pirate baseball and I'm convinced the Pittsburgh Pirate organization will expire.

Great staff for a better team. Sucks for Jones but at least he won't have to pitch wasted gems. I hope he comes back strong for some team.

I see Heaney is pitching well today. Got him an offensive explosion, 2 runs so far.

Ho hum. Bucs win another series against the Big Red Machine. Feels like the early 90's all over again. :applaud:

Some damn good pitching. Tripled their offensive output from Tuesday's W. It's a start. Would love seeing them do the same against the Brewfarts these next 4 games.

Still have not won 3 in a row. Last night was their 2nd or 3rd chance this season.

More Bad News from the Bad News Bucs: Jared Jones has his UCL repaired. Not replaced, this was not full Tommy John surgery. Maybe it should be called Elton John surgery or something. Anyway he will be out 10-12 months.
Also, they finally got a respectable 5 runs last night shooting for three wins in a row, but also allowed 8.
I think the Bad News Bucs is a good name for this team. They try to tiptoe through the tulips but end up stepping in dog ****, every time. Manager fired. Clemente number on wall replaced by an ad. Commemorative Bucco bricks sent to landfill. Guy falls out of the stands. Never enough money to sign a decent free agent but always enough to sign a bad one. (If Tommy Pham had been the one falling out of the stands he would have missed the ground, because he can’t hit anything.)
It is a real ship show over at PNC.

Pirates win with Skenes on the mound. Relivers did their best to blow it. Probably most exciting game of season for those at PNC.

Pirates try for 5 of their last 6 today. Falter takes the mound. Cruz, Horowitz, Carnivorous all hitting. Get Pham out of there and get another bat or two and this team might actually be adequate. Unfortunately I see no offense at AAA, so they will have to deal a starting pitcher to get a stick. Best possibility is for them to get a player blocked at AAA in another organization. Syd Thrift was good at that kind of deal.

Altogether now - "Thank you Ryan Borucki!"

Offense finally did enough in a comeback to win this. Where do they find these loser relievers?

Pirates scored 9 runs and Reynolds went 4 for 4. Blind squirrels do find nuts.

Bring up Chandler, trade Heaney to a contender for a bat. Release Pham or use him only as a late inning defensive replacement for the rest of the year if they are averse to eating the rest of his contract. His defense is quite good.
This would look like a much different team if they do that, maybe even over .500. I think some moves like that are going to happen.

The Colorado Rockies are so bad. I'm on that team, I hit one of the many weed stores in Denver and just kick it on the bench making nice money.

Maybe Bucs should move to Arizona? Flagstaff would be nice. 17 unanswered runs in last 8 innings over 2 games. Finally some runs for Skenes. Fun while it's lasting. SD will be tough with their billion $ payroll.

The offense sure went simeo-fecal on the dbags the last couple games. There is so much to the mental side of the game, maybe this will make it fun to come to work for them and they will score more runs.
I’d still like to see them trade for a good hitter or two, not a has been or a never was.
I guess hoping for that is another definition of fantasy baseball.

Well another chance to finally win 3 straight tomorrow night against Padres. Highly doubt they will do it.
