    Steve McLendon Visits Packers Today

According to a couple reputable sources, McLendon visited the Packers today. The Packers have over 17 million in cap space.

Dang, only had 2 more days to go before they were cut off from other teams. Sanders was the first RFA in 3 years to sign an offer sheet and now we may have 2 in the same month.

Did I miss something? Where did $17 million come from?

Edit: Never mind. I see that's what the Packers have in cap space. I guess the Packers have been watching Steelers game film and saw that McClendon made a splash play virtually every time he's in the game.

I don't like this. At the start of free agency, McClendon was the guy that I wanted to protect with a 2nd round tender. He is likely gone.

The Packers won't have 17 million after signing Clay Mathews to a contract at 13 million a year and they're trying to sign Aaron Rodgers to a longterm contract also.

Yeah. Figures the sudden break in the drought that is NFL RFA action involves the Steelers.

My thoughts on McLendon are pretty well known (I believe someone here once implied I had a man crush on him last year during camp), so needless to say him departing just before actually getting some meaningful playing time will make me want to burn a cheesehat.

I guess if McClendon signs with GB, it means that Big Snack will be back.

Well hopefully the FO has learned and will stop overpaying and restructuring and will go back to re-fortifying through the draft

Hindsight is 20/20, but if the Steelers had known a team may make an offer to McClendon, do you think it would have affected the decision to match the Patriots offer to Sanders?

This infuriates me! If he leaves I hope he goes to GB and has one of the worst careers that anyone has ever had. I am so sick of these money hungry posers tainting the game. If you wanna be a Steeler just shut up and play and they will compensate you fairly.

    Dirty Ass Patriots!!!
If they hadn`t forced our hand, with Sanders, we maybe could`ve matched this offer!!!
    :rant::mad::butcher:
I am only halfway kidding here...
I seriously do NOT want to lose McClendon.
I hadn`t evn considered the possibility, until it was brought up, in relation to the Pats offering a 1 year deal to Sanders...
What could be their ulterior motive?
Maybe they were interested in McClendon, was brought up in that thread...
Now, we might still lose him, but not even to the Pats?!?!
    AAAGGGHHH!!!:dizzy:
I SERIOUSLY hope, this is a lot of media talking crap that don`t amount to nuthin, but..
If the Pack decides they want him, with all their cap room to spare, how could we stop them?!?!
AAAAccckkk!!!!(Best "Bill The Cat" impession I got)...
Sure sounds like a buncha "he said she said" high school bull ****!
I really hope it is, `cause if it`s true, this sucks!
Gonna have to trust in "`Moo"???!!!
    Or an old-ass Big Snack???
That would be better, but I was(AM) really lookin fwd to seein what McClendon can do in the middle of our D...
Nevr really understood why he was behind Hampton so much, last year...
Maybe they (f.o.) knows sumthin we don`t???
He sure looked good to me, when he had his chances..
Hope the Pack don`t take him, based on the Pats move on Sanders!
Oh yeah... no point in worrying... it don`t change nuthin...
Either it will happen, or it won`t.
    I really hope it don`t, tho.:steelflag:

Dude, if I had a chance to get 17 million I would grab it in a heart beat. That is a once in a lifetime opportunity. There is no loyalty until there are guaranteed contracts in the NFL.

Why did the Steelers give out such low tenders that teams are willing to go after our RFA's like this, what was the rational there???? That is a serious blow if we lose him, because frankly I don't have much faith in Ta'amu just yet.

I don't think the Pack will use ALL of their remaining cap space on McClendon. No dollars have been mentioned yet and I hope it doesn't come to that.

Hell yes... I sure HOPE it would...
Good question though... We are thin at reciever, but even MORE thin at NT, IMHO..
Which would the board members prefer we keep? Sanders or McClendon?
My opinion is, I don`t wanna lose either one,
But, given that we get a 3rd round pick, and another 1 miliion or so in cap room, to let Sanders go, and NOTHING (unless I am mistaken) for Mc C, I would say goodbye to Sanders.
Wouldn`t like it, but given the choice... ?
Shame we didn`t really have the choice, since Green Bay didn`t make their offer, until the Pats forced our hand..
    It`s a conspiracy, I tell ya!!!:rant::duel::frustrated:

Just kiddin, about the "conspiracy"... It`s just the reality of the NFL/ Free agent market in 2013...
Sure miss the days when we could build a "dominant" team...
But every other team has to deal with the same shlit... I like our odds.

The Packers offer (if they make one) will be a very small fraction of that. We currently have enough to match give or take a $2 Million first year offer. As far as tendering him at a higher rate, why would they? It's all about valuation, and he was an UDFA who hasn't played a whole lot of snaps. Why use the extra cap space on an RFA when you don't have to? The Steelers made the right call there; now we'll have to wait and see what the Packers do...

All he did was visit....nothing else at this point. The Packers kicking the tires and seeing whats going on. Even if he signs an offer and its reasonable the and IF the Steelers WANT to match it...they will. Plain and simple.
