Unreal. They go out of their way to keep this offense untalented. I don't mind trading him, built at least get value and win the trade.

    First Tomlin losing season incoming.

Maybe I let my emotions get carried away a bit, I just wish they had kept both those guys, at least Pickens for this year.

The ESPN panel was in agreement this morning that if this is the offense the Steelers start the season with, it will be the worst one in the NFL.

Man...y'all really thought the Steelers were going to be something in 2025? LOL

Sure higher compensation would have been nice, but Pickens is a problem. I for one am not going to miss all the drama, bad blocking, bad penalties and off field distractions. Who knows what GP would have been in 2025 playing on last year of rookie contract with potentially no real QB.

I'm looking at this with a long term lens...I personally like how they are rebuilding this team. Good riddance.

So you think we would be better if we kept Pickens? The same Pickens who won’t block, quit on plays not designed for him, numerous personal fouls, the 3 tds he brings us, this Pickens?

He has control? I don’t let him control anything. Go to Dallas for at least a 2nd round pick, or Rot on the bench for the 3rd we received for him.

They are at least getting one cheap year. We are paying a ransom for Metcalf.

#1. For those complaining about the low compensation, I’m sure we got the best possible trade offer. I’m sure we weren’t turning down a 2nd rounder to take the package with Dallas. The fact that we threw in a 2027 6th shows me that we negotiated to the breaking point.

#2. the reason we didn’t get more compensation is that other teams clearly didn’t value Pickens that highly when factoring in that he was entering the last year of his rookie deal (which could be a problem) and his lack of emotional maturity (which may or may not improve). The Cowboys will probably need to give him a big contract.

#3 the alternatives were to pay him big $$$ and trust that he would grow up and be less “me focused” after a big payday; or keep him for one last season (which could be a holdout or low effort year).

#4. I’ve seen a lot of assumptions that he would get us a 2027 3rd round comp pick. That far from guaranteed, especially if he caused issues, or if he gets injured. It could just as easily be a 4th or worse, or even nothing if we sign a free agent of comparable value.

Depends on what your definition of "something" is? I was hoping for a playoff win for a change with Rodgers, Pickens, and DK. Small thing to ask, but I can kiss that dream good-bye.

I for one (and after this thread, not many agree) am excited to see this happen. I was so tired of ALL the bad he brings to this team for a few great catches a few TD's.

I am okay with the 3rd round pick, probably the best we could hope for. I really hope they go get a legit #2 (Allen, Cooper, etc.).

Worst case, we suck this year and get a higher first round pick next year...the draft is in Pittsburgh and we go get the QB we want and need.

That makes it even worse. They could have had him for 2025 and gotten the comp pick. They got next to nothing for Pickens, which is inexcusable.

Well Pinky (Andy Weidl) and the The Brain (Omar Khan) might have a plan, I sort of doubt it but maybe.

George Pickens definitely was a head case at times.
And the Steelers did draft and trade off Claypool and DJ.... a couple other headcases.
And there was the strange case of A. Brown who just went insane one summer morning.
And there have been some other head cases.
George Pickens might well go to Dallas and never catch a ball. Who knows.

WR's like the catch the ball.
To keep them happy, you throw the ball their way. That usually takes a QB.
Since Ben, we haven't had much luck with QB's. We even traded away a 1st rounder, and went with a Has-been and a never-was.

Perhaps Mr Rogers decided to pick up the phone and give Pinky or The Brain a call and tell them that he isn't signing with the team.
So in a bizzarro world, it makes sense to jettison a talented WR and never mind any coaching issues that cannot seem to make things work.
Can't be the coaching, why we even have a Defensive Coordinator that set a record for MOST yards given up during a stretch of 3 games. "Set a record" are key words to focus on.

Speaking of QB's, they also like to throw to people who can get open and make catches.
Aaron Rogers no longer makes sense here.
or maybe he actually did make the aforementioned call.
Maybe, just maybe he helped us out more that way.
We jettison yet another troubled WR, and flounder our way to a 5-12 finish.
At 5-12 you would be in good draft position but add in the fact that along with comp picks, Pinky and The Brain could have as many as 11 picks if everything turns out well.
Good position and lots of picks in a draft that should have some QB's worth their oats is a good thing.

Maybe, just maybe, there is some genius behind this.

Vince Lombardi couldn't get 9 wins out of this roster.

Not so sure about that. For one Rodgers may not sign with or without GP. But if he does still sign, I don't think not having Michael Brewerly is going to make that much of a difference and honestly could be the reason they don't win.

Then don't trade him and get the comp pick when he leaves as a free agent. Pickens is at least worth a second-round pick. If they can't get that, keep him. Doing otherwise is a joke.

Name 30 receivers better than him. You can't, at least not honestly. That alone invalidates your argument.

I guess I’m the only Steelers fan that likes this. I’d love it if it was for a 1st or 2nd rounder.

My perspective, I dont care if we got Rodgers and great QB play from him, we weren’t going to win the Super Bowl. He couldn’t do it in his MVP years with a team sculpted around him in GreenBay over the last 10 years. AND I don’t want him.

Pickens while a very talented pass catcher never felt like a true #1 and was supremely immature. I have been on eggshells waiting for the floor to drop out with him somehow. His types always come with live grenades attached at their hips just ready to create casualties to those around them and spoil the mission. Even the anxiety of it is toxic. I felt this from his weird draft video. I was like WTH is that?!?!

I also wanted compensation for his talents.

Get some fundimentals and schemes locked in with core vets and roll players this year and have an epic historical draft next year in the home city to set up a new dynasty!!!!

These are my hopes. I like this front office. They make moves! Even if not correct they at least swing for the fences.
