That will be the mystery. I don't hate MR, in many ways I think he was thrown in to a situation he was not ready for. The line was aging and it showed, running game was subpar, not saying he was ever going to be 'the guy', and the same can be said for Howard. I the scheme is right, the surrounding cast performs well I think he can develop, if thrown to the wolves and expected to be a savior I think you get poor results.

Yes, his path could be very similar to Rudolphs if he is forced into action sooner rather than later. The best thing for him probably is to sit for a season.

The problem with that as Ive pointed out before is the big QB class looming in 2026.

The best thing for him probably is to sit for a season. (I heard that somewhere but I can’t remember where)

And I don’t see that as a problem and should in no way affect our first draft pick if a good quarterback is available.

Having two good quarterbacks is not a bad thing.

it really is not a bad thing, kind of a reverse Bledsoe/Brady kind of thing, but if you go QB 1 next year, you have a cheap BU for at least 3, if the 1st gets injured or does not work and Will shows something you follow the fall back plan. Seems farfetched, but as it has happened you keep it in your back pocket and perhaps lightning does strike twice (if needed), if not you have a cheap BU who signs for a little better money or goes to other pastures.

Was just thinking it would be ideal if they knew what they had in Howard before then, possibly sparing them using a first rd pick on a QB.

It’s probably unlikely that Howard progresses to that point, though.

Nobody would take me up on a single one of them....everyone talked about it, and said this , or that, but Nobody would go that far. They should have.

Only thing is......if they see something in him, they may go in another direction come next years draft.

Except the fact of draft status, and the difference in money being paid will always make it a problem with who should really start. I know some don't like to believe this, but in most cases throughout the league, that's how it works, and yes someone can show a outlier, but for every outlier example, I can show 10 the other way.

This is the problem that comes from not scouting every single college game, I never looked at KS games but to that I say, who cares about KS. Do players not improve? His accuracy may have been all over the place at KS but his Ohio tape is littered with a lot of damn good throws and played his best football during the playoff run.

I don’t know, trying not to look at this through black and gold colored glasses, I’m actually looking for the negatives in his game and what Im finding is not all that bad to me. We might have something here.

Yeah, if they draft a first rd QB next year, Will Howards career is over before it begins. At the very least, will be delayed 2 or 3 years.

Sitting Howard for a season is not bad. You can still evaluate throughout camp and get a feel if he's progressing.

Howard does possess a lot of qualities of a higher round pick. Watching him at Ohio was very enticing, he did many things right.
That shows growth, and that's important. He also showed up in the big games, that's also important.
There is no protocol that says he cannot be elevated during the season if he is making that kind of progress.
What I would always recommend to guys like him is, get in the park, find Arthur Smith and join at the hip with him..
Learn that offense inside and out. Eat, sleep and dream that playbook and apply it when you get reps.

We either have a guy that can be the Franchise QB, or we have a decent backup.... or a bust if he does nothing to help himself - I don't see that yet but it is always a possibility.

tom arth tried to recruit him to akron when he was the coach there. so he is somewhat familiar with him. that's a plus. i believe mason has learned through his 5 and now sixth seasons and can help him more so than ben ever helped mason. both i believe will learn from arth. see where it goes before drafting next year. there is a lot of football to play between then. heck maybe skylar improves as well. see how much they absorb before we are dedicated to picking and starting over again.

Don’t think that will be a problem for Howard, he already reached out to get the playbook.

Apparently those are not seasons they are “windows”

And apparently you need 4 of these in a row no matter how bad you are

Same size as our future HOF'er QB who retired 3 years ago. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Howard is on the BR level but maybe that will help him be able to take a hit and be more willing to stand in the pocket and be harder to take down. I just hope he doesn't take as many sacks.

The biggest issue I see with Rudolph that hasn't really improved since he's been in the league is that he always seems 1/2 second behind. He's had enough 1st team reps in Pitt and TN to improve that. Is it decision-making, confidence? I just don't think he has the instincts to overcome it.

That was also Cliff Stoudt's number. Harry Newsome also wore it.

That's not helping, is it? :roflmao:
