Defense literally allowed them to walk them for 7 plus minutes. Then the offense turns the balls over. The defense gets dog walked again. But it’s all on the offense. Defensive team.

Agree, Flores should have the job over Austin, he is so much more aggressive then Austin. Also not sure of who is actually calling the shots on defense Tomlin or Austin. If its Tomlin then that could be why Flores isn't here and went to the Vikings as he would want most all of the defensive schemes and total play calling.

They never make a big play when needed. LoL
So those other games that they ended this year with a int, or a fumble don't count???
LoL. Is the memory not what it was?? Hell don't go back very far....how about the week before, and that's not even close to the only one.
I swear some of You, and I Like all of you, but sometimes people just say stuff....without a bit of truth to it.

Let me say some not true statements I've heard since this last loss.
The Defense never shows up when needed: Like we don't have any stops , or turnovers that have pretty much ended the game in more than a handful of games.
Fields throws to Washington more than Wilson does: No Wilson has actually thrown to Washington almost 3 times as many times.
I understand people like to complain after a loss
,but please....please have some truth to what You complain about. Don't just make stuff up.

Almost as though time of possession was a Steelers strength, and the Eagles game-planned to neutralize it.

    :hmm:

The Eagles have been doing that to opponents throughout their nine-game winning streak, so I'm not sure that is true. The one thing they did differently from recent games is they threw more early, but controlling the clock is a big part of their game plan every week.

Teams can game plan all they want, but you can't execute a game plan like that unless the defense fails repeatedly to do its job as the Steelers did Sunday.

Eagles came out and ATTACKED, from the first snap. No huddle, pass, pass, pass.

They are creative. Our coaching is NOT. the defense did not expect that. That is what GOOD coaching does - it throws the unpredicted at you.

Coaching will always be one of our shortcomings.

that said - and have said ad nauseam this year: Tomlin and Khan decided to overweight the DEFENSE with spending and supposed talent. They are not playing to their paychecks. they are NOT suffocating, they are good, but not great. we needed GREAT.

that plus early setback and injuries to the offense (Ro Wilson and Troy F.) have set us back. This running attack sucks - it sucks. It was supposed to be the strength of this team and we stink.

The Eagles had no first quarter TD's(possibley even scores) until this game. Our D gave up 10 pts, yes Najee lost the game because he fumbled, SMH.

We lost because the OF and DF coaches coaches were out game planned, bad play calling with out our best players not on the field, overall bad schemes and tackling. Our HC did not help with his time management and not helping with needed changes that needed too be made during the game. In this game we also had to beat the ref's.

We had a lot more problems then Harris fumble.

The defense was on the field too much because they couldnt tackle. They missed 20 tackles which is nearly double any other game this year. The previous high for missed tackles was 11. If they make a stop. our offense then has a chance to make some plays. 2 offensive series in the 2nd half is quite frankly unbelievable.

Imagine that....2 starters off the Defense, and our number 1 Wrs not playing, and we lost against a very good team that we haven't beat at their house since 1965....Wow.....who would have thought it. Dang You Tomlin for making Noll, and Cowher not win in Philadelphia.

you have definitely said it, but it still isn’t true. We have several second or third large contracts on defense and basically zero on offense. We aren’t paying 40 million for a franchise quarterback. We aren’t paying 30 million for a wide receiver. We aren’t paying 15 million for a left tackle. That will balance out soon enough and then you’ll have to find some other made up crap to whine about

I agree with most of this.... but you are wrong about spending on offense vs. defense. Wrong like Colin Cowherd.... who doesn't look into the details. Steelers have nobody on offense commanding huge contracts except for Friermuth. Steelers... when they had the killer Bs were offense heavy.... with Villanueva, Pouncey, DeCastro, Roethlisberger and AB contracts, so it's not like the Steelers never spent any money on offense.

so - I am not wrong in that:

I am commenting on the 2024 Roster,

FA - they went after NO HUGE FA's on offense. They COULD have found a star WR or T / G / C - or QB, for that matter.

    they did not

    they loaded up on D......

I don't think I said they NEVER spend on offense.......they tilted toward D clearly for 2024.

You had us beating them, prior to the game. How, why?

that is what I don't get with fans. they are unrealistic. They can't see a game for what it is, a match-up and measure it apart from waiving their towels. Almost every call in the thread last week was for a win.

we did not stand much of a chance on Sunday. a chance - yes, but slim. w/o a HEALTHY Pickens this offense is HORRIBLE. Mike Williams is a shell of what he used to be. A/Smith just is what he is - A/Smith. We are not beating people with the run, which I really thought we would do this year.

so - that is what it looks like this week, to me. The Rats are FUMING to kick our ass's - we have embarrassed them for several years and we are a wounded team going in there - with a an OC calling a boring game. I pray that Russ comes out alive and makes it to Christmas, I really do. We beat them w FG's last time and relied on their MISSED FG's to keep us out in front!

I love my Steelers - I just feel like we are hitting Hamburger Hill, in Vietnam, this weekend.

Which quarterback should they have signed instead of Wilson? Cousins got an insane contract that has turned out to be a disaster for the Falcons. Mayfield resurrected his career in Tampa Bay and always seemed locked in to staying there. If you say Darnold, you would be welcome to your hindsight, but that was a lottery ticket that panned out.

Yes, they blew it at receiver. There is no doubt about that. They had two starting tackles, so they were never going to go after a big free agent there. They had two quality starters and a veteran backup at guard. Who knew Seumalu was going to fall off a cliff and the other two were going to suffer season-ending injuries?

At center, Khan's gamble paid off. He waited on Frazier and got him. I was as critical as anybody of them not signing a free agent center, but they proved me wrong and got their guy for this season and the long term.

If anything, I would have liked to see them do one more thing for the defense, something I wrote on draft day. They should have taken Mitchell over Fautanu.

I have not, per se, second guessed what they did. I have just stated clearly WHAT they did - it seems some have forgotten

they bet HEAVY on defense. that Defense has not been suffocating, just good.

this team CANNOT run the ball.

At times, they run it very well. They can’t do it when there are no receivers the defense has to respect, which does not bode well for Saturday with Pickens out again.

    at times.....

but statistically, since SO MANY here love the numbers, WE SUCK over the course of the year.

The Rats in Baltimore are not where we get healthy running - especially and double it w Pickens out (like you say)

Ravens will press and crowd the box.

Wake up A Smith, wake up

Agreed … and it appears Deshaun Elliot is out again and will miss the Ravens game. He’s a sure fire open field tackler.
