To be fair, he did give up the strip sack that set up the go-ahead touchdown. It helped him that the officials let him mug Herbig on Winston's one-yard scramble for a touchdown. A little bit of everything went wrong last night and the officiating was no exception. Herbig was blatantly held on that one play. The defender got away with grabbing Patterson early on the failed two-point conversion. Pickens was definitely interfered with on a deep ball before the half and it looked like they got away with another one on the throw by Fields. (I thought the defender grabbed his hand or arm just before the ball arrived.) Worst of all, the Browns got away with a pick on the fourth-down conversion that set up the winning touchdown.

The Steelers played poorly. They coached poorly. They deserved to lose, but the Browns got a lot of help from the officials.

Wilson didn’t lose this game. All we needed to do was convert the 3rd and 4 and Fuelds throws it deep. It made no sense. Our third down short yardage and red zone offenses are terrible. We can’t buy a yard. Our offensive line is getting manhandled.

Najee is way too slow to the hole. Seamalu has been a liability in short yardage run blocking lately. Conner Heyward is a waste to have out there. He offers nothing in the way of blocking and gets too many presnap penalities.

Defensive line got manhandled as well. Benton and Ogunjobi in particular. What happened to Benton this year.

second game this year the defense could not preserve a lead late. Minkah has been a disappointment as well. He just seems late to recognize and as a result late to the play or raking bad angles or missing tackles.

 

Everything you said is true, but the officials are bad Every game. The O-Line is bad almost every play. This loss is 100% on the Steelers.

 

You ain't lying about Connor. It's like the coaches are trying to get him and Patterson plays no matter what.

 

Offense and Arthur Smith


1. What is the package with Patterson, Heyward, Pruitt, total garbage and should never be used again. These 3 should not even be on the field. Patterson looks like he gained 30 lbs since his off time for injury. Should not be running kickoffs, should not be the lead receiver on 2 point fade route with Muth, Washington and Pickens. Having Patterson run a receiver sweep to the opposite side. Come on now, know your personnel.

2. Heyward is not a true fullback, if he is going to play fullback only. The get a real fullback. He had 5 horrible plays with 2 or 3 Hayward penalties and missed blocks

3. Pruitt - WHY

4. Harris - I can tell within the 1st couple of runs if he is going to have a good game by watching how he dances and hesitant when hitting the hole. He was just awful yesterday and way over used. Why do we keep running him so much and not passing occasionally on first down or second downs. We are better off if he didn't play at all yesterday. 4th and 1 is so bad, it is comical. Harris tries runs at times like he is a scat back which he is not instead of a power back.

5. Muth now has like 8 targets in the last 3 games, (2 and 2 and 4 yesterday) he has caught every target, Why, Why Why not more. No we pass to Austin's man Patterson on a fade for 2 points.

6. Teams are just going to load up the box when Fields comes in. Not a fan with the extra QB packages and it also breaks the pattern and timing of the receivers when Wilson is on a roll.

7. Wilson needs to not hold the ball so long and throw it away instead of sacks. Muth can be your best friend.

8. Stop trying to get too cute and think the offensive formation changes are going to make things happen instead of just putting in your best players and is not Patterson, Heyward, Pruitt.

9. Are you all crazy trying to kick a field goal 58 yards into the wind and blowing snow storm. (that's a Tomlin call)

Smith is still better then Canada, that's not saying much, and I but I could see why he got fired in Atlanta.

 

Running Justin Fields out there in every situation last night was just stupid. The 4th down earlier in the game at midfield and 4th and 2. Everyone knew Fields was running there, everyone. Fields has shown he's mental midget and then you have him out there at the end of the game with it on the line throwing bombs away in a blizzard.
Continuing to go for it on 4th down and failing, when your offensive line is getting dominated, and giving the Browns great field position is inexcusable.
That's coaching. That's world class dumb@ss stuff. That's Mike Tomlin.

 

In every metric the Steelers more or less had better numbers. Total yards, passing yards, rushing yards, TOP . This is on the Oline. They all sucked which I have never seen before. Broderick Jones was really bad. Running Warren more would have been an improvment. Warren had a 4.4 avg rushing and Najee had 2.2

Great points. That never occured to me until I read this. In other words there were issues that were coming to the fore. I can tell you that the Oline was terrible yesterday. All of them which is a first. All 5 guys really sucked.

Started to use Fields too much in second half just let him play in weather games .....i think he will be better than Russ in those..

Spot on with a lot of your assessments. Why don’t they have more check downs on those long balls? Why no screen game? I’m with you on Heyward especially.
Tge defensive line was horrible yesterday as well. Benton has not had a very good season.

If ever there was a time to play the field position game this was the one.

 

This game wasn’t on Wilson at all. The Oline was terrible. We couldn’t convert 3rd or 4th and short. We couldn’t run. Play calling was poor.

 

It sucks that the penalty wasn't intentional grounding. A QB should never be sacked again. Just throw the ball to your lineman who is giving up the pressure.

 

No way in hell Fields makes the throw Wilson made to Austin to take the lead late. If anything, the mistake was going to Fields too much.

 

I am certain they ruled that Queen's hit is why the ball went there, but that was a bad call.

This is what its measured by. That grounding call was overruled by New York to set up the next game.

 

Steelers need some self scouting on offense, we are looking predictable... Justin Fields package won't save us.
