good move. once again it seems that the front office knows what they are doing. imagine that. he has been a pretty good lineman since he has been here and i know the kid from when he was at tenn. he is a good man and would have been a fairly high draft pick if it wasnt such a mess here when he played.

Awesome news...I always thought he was a solid player...i figured they would re-sign Legs and then Foster would be second on the list to possibly re-sign. But works for me...be it for depth or him starting somewhere.

Awesome...he's good enough and now we don't need to draft an OL early, as we have other glaring needs

Does anyone think this will have an effect on Colon's status? I guess we'll know more when the numbers are out. It's a $1.2 M saving if he's released now or around $5 M after June 1st I believe.

I'm just hoping they signed him for depth and aren't thinking about starting him at LG.

Def will affect Colon... Rumors were Foster wanted to start, so I imagine he wouldn't have re-signed unless he thought that was happening. Bouchette just tweeted that this puts Colon in limbo, since the savings from cutting him would be a lot more if we wait until June.

Kind of a dirtbag move, because it means Colon misses out on the prime free agency period, but he'll get in somewhere regardless.

Looks like Dulac scooped Abitiwaba Bakanabalabanabiwawawa. What does she have to say on the matter?

    ramon foster resigns

personally, I'm quite happy about it. Foster gets far too little love here... he's fairly technically sound, and steps up whenever called upon. I know he's not the most mobile, but he is solid and a very good back-up at worst... my main hope is that he will move to rt and allow us to bench gilbert.. probably won't happen, but I still think that rt is his best position.http://www.steelersdepot.com/2013/03/report-steelers-sign-ramon-foster-to-three-year-contract/

Every little bit helps when you are as tight against the cap as we are. Get rid of the dead weight.

Im pretty sure I read if they designate colon a june 1st cut which they can now it saves them 5.5 mill

"Alternatively, the Steelers could designate Colon as a June 1 cut, in which case the salary-cap savings would be $5.5 million."

I would rather do that and deal with the dead money next year when the cap may go up a lot more kinda a gamble but im a gambling man.

The last I read it's never going to be big salary cap jumps, more like small incremental jumps.

I'll hold my reaction until I see the money. If it's backup money, I'll be thrilled. But you don't see to many three year deals for backup money. I love Foster as the swing LG/RG/RT backup. I'll take him over Legursky any day. I'm not nuts about him as a starter, though. With the promising youth of Adams, Pouncey, DeCastro, and Gilbert, that's 4 out of 5. I can see us trying to squeak by with Foster starting, but all things being equal, I would rather play Colon or draft a rookie to do it. If this is any kind of serious money, I suppose it will show that they are ready to roll with this guy. It wouldn't be the worst thing, because I think Foster is underrated. But we could definitely do better. Oh well.

The real question is, who plays left and who plays right? Foster is much better suited for the right side, and DeCastro could easily make the switch to the left. But will they want to? They made such a big deal out of being able to pull to the left last year. And since Adams is the better run blocker between he and Gilbert, how will that affect things? And which sides will they be on, since they can both play both?? And what about Colon??? Seems like things are getting less clear by the day, but I'm excited to see it all shake out.
