As expected, Antonio Brown's contract has been restructured to make more cap space. The restructure reduces his $2 Mil base salary to the minimum $650,000. The salary and roster bonus he was due will be rolled into a signing bonus, which will be evenly spread over the remaining five years of his contract. The move creates an additional $3.08 in cap space for 2013. More restructures will be coming in the very near future as we make moves to get below the cap by March 12th.

    Why?
Lucky him. He gets all of that money right now. Up front instead of spread out through the season. Its party time at the Brown house!

I'm sure his is coming. They are going to do all the restructures first and then make the cuts and when all the dust settles we'll be under the cap and ready to draft :towel:

Reports are that they have been working on Ben's restructure the last few days and should be done by the end of the week.

I would wait as long as possible for Ben to sign so it doesn't change the franchise tag.

tag should applied by 4 of march we have one more week to be under the cap , they should already have deal in place and wait 5 of march , but seems the rats can use the non exclusive tag , in that case they will acquire two first round picks and save the money , sincerely if i'm the rats i will let flacco go and draft geno smith trading up

    Question on restructures:

Since the player gets his money upfront as a signing bonus, and not spread over the season, I assume the have to pay the cash now. But restructuring Ben, Timmons, Brown and possibly Woodley, Harrison means they have to hand out a lot of cash NOW.

The NFL is agreat, profitable business and all, but I hardly think that the Steelers have $50 million in cash lying around. So they'll have to borrow it or sell some others asset. I wonder how much restructure you do,before you get in a liquidity bind, and if this drives some of their thinking regarding restructures?

wouldnt surprise me a bit if they had it lying around. we are one of the most marketed franchises in sports. I mean i live in tenn and the local malls cant keep steeler merchandise.

Oh yea, they should definitely do that! We should start a petition and see if they listen.

I'm going to have to tweak my salary cap model, because I had not factored in the roster bonus. It only appeared in 1 of the 3 sources that I used for data (Rotoworld), so I left it out. It looks like we will have less cap space than I thought :(

$50 mil to them is probably like $5k to us. If you figure $55 a ticket x 65,000 tickets x 10 games comes out to over $37 mil. Dont the Rooney family own some of the Penguins and a horse track as well?

Ticket sales are insignificant compared to the tv and merchandise revenue teams make. Heck the new tv contract is about to nearly double to $39 BILLION over the next 8 years.
