The Steelers have restructured Timmons' contract which will free up approximately $5 Million in cap space for 2013. This was expected and pretty much a 'no-brainer'. Expect a couple more restructures in the coming days.

They need to restructure Woodley's contract next since he hasn't played to that level since he signed it.

Well, restructuring isn't a punishment. Quite the contrary really.

They need to restructure Woodley because of the length remaining on his contract, and the enormity of his cap charge for 2013. His production could be a factor in terms of how far into the future they push his restructure though.

i am happy. after the year timmons had and just his attitude make him deserving off alittle more money garanteed. at least i think that is what happens when they do this. more money up front?

Essentially. He'll get paid a lump sum (probably the majority) of his 2013 base salary now as a signing bonus, and the team will get to prorate that across the remainder of his contract, while freeing up the cap space immediately. He was also due a $2.5M Roster Bonus in 2013, so that will be rolled into his Signing Bonus, too.

5 mil only gets us down to 9 mil. over the cap now, with only 20 some players under contract.

while it's nice to see this, we are limited to who we can safely do this with because of injury and age. AB is young enough. woodley is boarderline to me. troy, ike, heath, clark and keisel are out of the question with injury and age. we will be stuck with ben's money well past his prime, but for now it's a must. we will have to pay at some point for it. just not when all these other guys are about to make a boatload too.

we also will have guys like pouncey, gilbert, sanders, hood, worilds, clark, brown, allen, king, vandyke, rolle, suisham, cotchery, carter, woods, mclendon, golden, w.johnson and possibly a bu qb to deal with next year.

I'm not sure where you get 20 players under contract. By my count it's in the neighborhood of 50.

Woodley needs to restructure, take a pay cut or be released or get his fat A on a treadmill. the dude has all the talent in the world, but he is going to eat himself out of a job.

none of our ERFA,RFA,URFA,or draft picks yet. these guys on here now are a very longshot to make the team. at least most of them. the price for our real prospects will go up. right now justin king is our 12 highest paid player at 715,000. then woods at 680,000.

Now Ben is done too... Clears nearly $6 M more.

I believe that's about $14 M with Timmons, Brown and Ben.
