Personally think it would be a shame to not see him get a chance at a start to see if he's still got game and can put up more than 18 pts. in a game.

As long as the Steelers are winning I would start Fields even if they are all ugly wins. I would definitely have Wilson practice with the first team some though. Maybe 20-30 minutes per practice. Keep him fresh should the wheels fall off. Fields hasn’t turned the ball over and that’s why I would continue to start him.

He'll get his time once he's fully healthy..... no need to rush it..
Also, the way I understand the trade for Fields is that we get a 4th rd pick if he plays at least 51% of the snaps

My only concern is that eventually the Defense can't hold the fort and the Steelers lose with Fields because of the lack of offense. Hope Wilson's ready to go soon....

If Fields continually improves and continues to win you certainly don’t want to change

But if that doesn’t happen the door will open like it has power assist

And quarterbacks do occasionally get injured

All I will say, and of course it's JMO, but you don't jerk him while we are winning. We have played 2 games in a 17 game regular season, and as both Noll, Cowher , and Tomlin have all said at times before. These things usually take Care of themselves in time. So let's just see.

I think you have this upside down. It is not the Steelers getting the 4th.

Right now the trade was Fields for a 6th, but if he plays more than 51% of the snaps the 6th becomes a 4th.

The Bears dealt Fields to the Steelers in March for a sixth-round pick that can become a fourth-rounder if the quarterback plays more than half the snaps for his new team.

I just hope they don't bench Fields so they'll only have to give up a 6th, lol

If he ventures back to being a turnover machine they will. I see the turtle play, keep the conservative approach until Wilson can go.

No doubt his lease will be very short when Russ is ready to go, but I think the job is his as long as he continues to be a good game manager, and they keep winning. I hope they open up the offense a bit against the Chargers, because they'll need to score more than 16 points if they want to win, especially if Herbert is able to play

I would assume Fields is on a short leash presently which is why we are seeing ultra-conservative play. The coaching is doing a good job of keeping him on a short leash which is dependent on each team and level of competition. For the better offensive teams, they will have to throw more. At that time we will know if we have in a well rounded versatile QB

No. If he plays less than 60% of snaps he only costs us a 6th. If he plays more he costs us a 4th

    it’s 51% not 60

Thought it was 60%. Either way it costs us a draft pick. We don’t get one

    /edit its 51%

If Fields pans out, well worth a 4th rd pick. Don’t much care about that.

    "continually improves"
he looked better the first half, for a drive or two, but digressed - the WHOLE OFFENSE digressed, much of the game. sloppy sloppy play. Penalties galore, pathetic 2nd half.

we have 1 TD (yes- the Pickens play should have been #2.....)

I think RW can more effectively run this offense - but he has to be healthy. He can pass downfield to WR's. They can run a more typical offense - PROVIDED we don't shoot ourselves in the foot every 5th play with a penalty.

I doubt they would do that, but Wilson is their starter. They planned all offseason around that. Fields has been fine, but the offense has scored one touchdown in two games. If I remember correctly, they only made it to the red zone once in the first game. They got 18 points because Boswell is great. Some of that is the mistakes by others on offense, but it also indicates that Fields hasn't done anything so spectacular to indicate he has won the job.

I believe when You see Russell as the 2nd, and not the emergency 3rd....is really when we will start to see how the team really feels.
