    Which play was more important?

    A) The Immaculate Reception

    or

    B) James Harrison's INT pick 6 in the Superbowl

Curious to see the responses................I got to go with B.

    A) cause it broke a history of losing, yeah Miami continued their perfect season but we all know the history, two (that year included) more unsuccessful years but then :)

    B) ... "just" won one a game

The reason I said B. was because if James doesn't jump that route, pick it off and return it 100 yards for a TD just as time expires in the first half, there is no way that the Steelers win that SB. Especially if it's completed for a TD.

Immaculate reception, while spectacular beyond most belief, did not amount to any Championship.

One helped us win a SB and the other won a playoff game. Easy choice for me.

This is how I look at it, the immaculate reception is considered to be one of the best plays to ever happen in NFL history. It was a last second, no chance, shouldn't have ever happened type of play that won a game, and still is talked about in the NFL today. It won us the game, but it helped put Pittsburgh on the map. James Harrison's SB 99yd pick six is probably the best defensive play in the history of the SB. Yea it was a huge factor in why we won the game, and will forever live on in steeler and SB history. But I know people my age who weren't even born in the 70's and are not steeler fans that know what the immaculate reception is and who was involved. I dont know if 20 years from now if Harrison's play will go down and be remembered outside of steeler nation like the immaculate reception was.

I would have to say that James Harrison's pick. Franco's play was incredible but the thing about Harrison's pick is that it was totally by design and that makes it a totally genius football play. Also the pick was all Harrison but the TD was all TEAM. Just watch how guys got out in front to block and made it possible for him to score. Tomlin said they actually practiced that so if a turnover happened they would be ready to get out and block. His pick was a legendary Super Bowl play but it was also a legendary FOOTBALL play. Warner was a GREAT qb but he never saw it coming. Also the drama on the opposite goal line makes it even better. Every so often I watch that play over and over again and just think about how awesome it really was. But that takes NOTHING from Franco's play and also the IR pretty much made the Steelers a legit franchise and certainly birthed the fan base we have today.

Imaculate Reception all the way, shouldn't even be a debate.

In football lure, it is the IR. With the touchdown catch at the end, I'm not even so sure JH's interception was the best play of that game. At the time, I called it the greatest play in superbowl history. Problem is, it wasn't at the end, or for the win. As such, it won't be remembered as much as the IR is.

Yeah but the question isn't which is the better play, it's which is more important. Not even close in my eye's, JH all the way. I don't buy into the IR put the Steelers on teh map, we would have went onto 4 SB's anyway, team was far too talented not to. Now just going based on awesome factor, yeah, hard to be the IR.

Could the argument be made that the REAL Steelers that we all know today weren't born until the 74 draft? I mean could the team that won in 72 have went on to win 4 Super Bowls? I VERY seriously doubt it. Wasn't 74 the year that we got 3 Hall of Famers? Maybe I'm a little off on the dates.

You are 100% CORRECT BFT...The team in 72 lost to the unbeaten Fins....Our 74 draft was a hugh winner....That my friend is what made us what we are to this day....A six time SB champ!!! ....The 69 draft with a guy named Green REALLY help too.

Right, the 74 draft made us so the IR which was in 72 had nothing to do with it.

I'll betcha that every member of this MB born before 1970 will say The Immaculate Reception and the ones on this MB that are saying the JH interception were mostly born after 1980.

I see where Tomlin_Era is coming from.....The IR gave us hope. We still did not have a Championship team. But we were close. The 74 draft really helped. The 69 draft with Green and the 70 with Terry. We were a dynasty in the making from 1969. Just took about 5 years to take hold.

We have 6....Nobody else does....That counts for something!!

Why pick between the two...I'm just glad that the Steelers can lay claim to both plays (and the Ben R. tackle to save the game). The more important question is...can any other team claim as many special plays or as important plays through their franchise history as the Steelers?

Yeah actually I think it's more accurate to say that the 74 draft solidified the team or put them over the hump since as you pointed out, there were very important pieces already in place before the 74 draft came around.
