Every year that passes the Chiefs are looking better and better with that crazy 10 year $450 million contract they gave Mahomes back in 2020.

In 2020, Mahomes agreed to a 10-year, $450 million extension with the Chiefs that put him under contract through the 2031 season.

After this year, Mahommes has a 60M+ cap hit (2025-2027). They already have pushed $120M into void years. Makes sense to go all in when you have a franchise QB but they are definitely going to pay later.

Just a quick question, what has he done in his career up to this point
To warrant this contract extension. I understand Urban Myers was in over his head
but he hasn't even put up numbers to warrant this. And I am not talking w/ l record.
Any Jax fans on here, how much is a price of a ticket? There goes your ticket costs! Buck and half
probably won't get you In peanut heaven.

There should be a cap on all salaries with a good insurance policy in case of a Ryan Shazier type injury. The rest of their millions can be made through endorsements. If you are a superstar the endorsements will come. If you are a bust or start playing poorly, the endorsements will fade away. It is bogus that teams can be burdened with salary cap issues long after a player is gone. Perfect example is all the uproar of "equal pay" with Caitlyn Clark's $76K salary in the WNBA. On some level, this is the correct way to go about it. She is still earning millions on her endorsements and NIL.

I mean I'm shocked as he hasn't proven anything yet, but less shocked than about Daniel Jones.

I was a youngster and an old man told me this. "Kid, Greed is going to ruin your generation. TBH, I am OK as are a lot of us baby boomers but I sure am seeing his point especially with Pro sports.

There IS a cap on all salaries and there has been for 20 yrs. The split of $ negotiated with the playes. Teams are burdened with salaries of long gone players by choice. Some choose to kick the can down the road and defer cap hits to ‘win now’, sometimes they’re right, sometimes they’re wrong, but it’s the teams choice to spend now and starve tomorrow, and for the most part their fans are on board.

The NFL is the ultimately fantasy league. Draft wisely, spent wisely, you contend. Spend poorly, draft poorly, lose and dig out of your hole. It’s eminently fair. Probably the fairest system in pro sports in the world.

You are correct there is a team salary cap. More specifically, I believe there should be a lower salary cap per position rather than a total team salary cap. As you stated, teams do get strapped with salaries of players long gone as well as no longer performing at a high level. Great for the players making the money, but actually bad for the fans in this situation. A few years back when baseball salaries really started taking off I always stated I would have been happy playing baseball everyday on my current salary. Now I am not the jealous fan and will not turn away from watching sports because of how much they make. I think some players fault the owners for making so much money while the players are who people are coming to see, but hey if the owner is smart enough to put himself in a position to make money and own a team then my hat is off to them that does not mean the players deserve a bigger cut. I've made a few implementations at my job that both made and saved the company a boat load of money. That doesn't mean I deserved a portion of the profits, I was doing what I was paid to do.

Has anyone seen the side by side comparison of Blake Bortles and Trevor Lawrence? It was surprising to see the stats with a slight edge going to Bortles for their first 3 years I still think Trevor may be the real deal, but long term is still yet to see.

somebody did a comparison with Fields as well, if he would have been someplace else besides the Bears he might be getting that type of contract. There were reports last week of grumblings among the owners that this is not sustainable, and trying to get a QB cap. Have no idea how that would play out, as negotiated the % the players get is where the cap comes from, they can try to limit that amount by position, but it raises so many problems with talks of collusion, etc. Ultimately its the owners themselves who sign the checks, they are the ones who approve or hire to approve these contracts. The size of the pie is the same for everyone, it can be sliced in different sizes yearly, but in the end that 48% (more or less) belongs to the players and has to be accounted for.

I don't think Lawrence is good right now but Bortles was just the king of the garbage time in 2015
