I was talking about our pick of Troy. Assuming you must be responding to Blast's comment.

Huh? I'm not sure what you're getting at here. The only way it won't be cheaper than Atlanta's chosen route would be if the Steelers ink a QB to a $180M deal and then draft another QB with the 8th overall pick.

I think there's a happy medium to be had between what the Falcons are investing in Cousins and Penix and the $4.4M and conditional 6th the Steelers are spending on Wilson and Fields if you just want to ensure a QB is on your roster next season.

Apparently it was their highest rated player on their board! The more I read I feel good about this pick. I might be in the minority here but I believe you build in the trenches on both sides of the ball and then move out from there. If we can get the line set then we may have to go without one of the best CB's this year and perhaps have to go next year or find a deal like we did with Minkah if someone fire sales somebody during the year. I hope we trade up for Frazier and lock that down.

There's a difference between cap hit and dead money. The Falcons would incur $25M in dead money by releasing Cousins after the 2025 season, yet would still save $32M in cap space by doing so.

I get this was not a sexy pick, but it was not a reach. In different reports he was rated top 15 or higher as BPA. The way the draft developed we had several choices at various positions of need and clearly this is choice that they felt was the one they wanted at that time. Could they have went up or dropped back, certainly, but either the price or offers were not right, or they just felt he was who they wanted.

I do not get the negative spin, T, CB, C, DL were the most talked about and obvious needs. Fautanu was not a desperate reach, he fell, their board had every option, he was the choice.

There was a lot of talk on radio today and even some who said this actually could be a good decision. Kirk is locked in this year, probably for at least 2, but with the CAP expanding as it has, the numbers can be absorbed, especially with a rookie QB contract. I do not necessarily like the move, but with a solid O around him this might look genius if he plays well if Kirk gets injured, or ages before our eyes.

He's likely locked into two years with his salary being guaranteed in 2025. They could designate him a post-June 1st cut and come out flat on the cap, otherwise they take a hit of $25M on top of the $65M in dead money.

That aside I don't think Penix was worth close to the 8th overall, and I generally like him as a prospect. I think they overpaid for Cousins as well, given his age and last year's injury, but there were cheaper ways to secure insurance behind him.

If this does materialise who do we reckon is available at pick 51 in terms of WR?

I think much of the angst is him being another LT and most were wanting a RT so they could move Jones back to LT. Now even though he's highly rated, You're either playing Jones or him out of their natural position. This coaching staff has not shown that they're very good at projecting position changes on that Oline in recent years.

Roman Wilson is a very popular choice. Question remains as to whether or not he will last that long. Size or not, he is a dangerous mismatch in the slot; an instant upgrade for the Steelers.

    Malachi Corey is great.

Not the fastest but outside of Malik Nabers, no other receiver can get as much YAC like him. Dude is very, very difficult to bring down and is a better route runner than others are giving him credit for.

LOL he had us taking Mims. I would not be surprised to see a trade up.

Yup, speed is maybe a bit overrated for some of these receivers. I mean AB ran a 4.57. Johnson ran a 4.53.

I was looking on B/R "Limited route tree and usage at this stage. Hardly asked to do anything but screens, flat routes and crossers." Umm, yes please?

I'd like Corley or Wilson at wide receiver. However, if JPJ or Frazier drop, I'd be very tempted to take the center. If we go defense, it has to be a cornerback I would think, and there are some good ones still on the board. Newton would be tempting, too, though. NFL Network compares him to Gravedigger.

I won't dispute that, though it was reported 3 other teams were eyeing Penix and supposedly tried to move up, how true is that is anyone's guess. I think the funniest line was the owners reaction, like wtf did you just do after I just spent 100 million on Kirk, lol.

Think I’m going to go with the network (ABC) coverage with Sabin. It’s a lot more dry and you kind of just get a more no thrills coverage which I’m kinda diggin.

    Go Steelers!
