I get the sentiment, what have we given up to get Wilson or Fields? The most immediate issue will be the 5th year option, if they opt in, then it's doubtful Russ is here more than a year and they try and sign Fields long term, that would be stupid. If both are here for only this year, then the QB room is better than last, if they extend Fields on some type of deal Love got from GB when his option was declined, you still have a project worth investing in under contract. The Russ stuff will take care of itself, but this year we have more talent and experience in that room than we have had in years. Will it work? IDK, but we are better right now than we were at the end of the season.

Sorry, but the beer I drink doesn't come in 30 packs. Usually 4 packs of 16 oz. But to each their own.

    1. Wilson: I wasn’t enthusiastic about him as an option until we were able to get him at the vet minimum. At his worst he’s better than last year’s entire QB room combined, and it’s not close. I’m a bit nervous that the scheme fit isn’t ideal, but I expect that he’ll compensate by making some key plays off schedule. Having a QB of his caliber at vet minimum has a huge cap benefit this year and helps over the next few years by reducing the need to restructure other contracts this year.

    2. Fields: I did NOT want Fields as Plan A. However by getting him with a conditional 6th round pick, we’ll get to kick the tires with him with minimal commitment. What makes me comfortable with the situation is that our new FO has demonstrated the courage to move on from players who aren’t getting the job done, and our FO won’t be shy about pulling the plug given the small commitment made if Field isn’t the guy. Fields has upside if his understanding of the game catches up with his raw talent. I’m not expecting that, but if it happens here, great.

Most of us remember the "good old days" when you didn't have to check the board during free agency until April. Now it's all day, every day.

On your first comment, not restructuring is a huge plus for upcoming years. We were in cap hell for years restructuring Ben's contract. If we can get through the off season without having to do that, so much better for next year. I still think we either add a couple of void years to Heyward's contract or restructure Highsmith, just to have a little flexibility.

It’s like having a solid rookie QB on a rookie contract.

That's false. Wilson threw 26 TD's and Fields threw 16 last year for a total of 42 TD's.

    Geeze.... where to begin?
The offseason gets a huge 'F' from me But........

They got Wilson for a song and dance, and another team is paying him to play for us.
That something special. It is a master deal.
    Wilson is the starter.

I've been projectile vomiting since I saw the news break on the Chicago QB.
I'm still gag at the mere mention of his name and thought of him actually taking snap just makes me ill beyond ill.
There isn't enough beer in the U.S. to get me drunk enough to root for him or see him any other light.
I had thought we were safe and escaped this disaster with the signing of Wilson.
He is so bad that Chicago gave us a 'take now and pay later' on a $10 signing. You're telling me that Minnesota couldn't come up with say a 5th round pick this year at least for him?
I figure at best case, maybe he can run the ball down the field and hand it to Pickens.

The only hope I have left is that Wilson does indeed light it up.
    * I've hated Wilson from his NC days.... so that's really saying something.
I will root for Wilson till I am hoarse and I pray he is an Iron Man.

The saving point of this nightmare from Chicago deal is that he basically doesn't cost us much if he fails.

    Signed,
    Unhappy Camper.
