I like this. Fields is the perfect backup, he has a similar style to Wilson so they are almost interchangeable. Maybe neither is any good of course

Whatever way this works out you have to admire the balls on Khan. He could easily have gone in to next season with Kenny as the starter, fans would mostly have accepted it and if it didn’t go well Kenny would get the blame, not Khan. He has stuck his neck out here big time. I love it

I disagree. Names are bigger, but the production is not.

Did anybody on this board ever envision a scenario where both Russell Wilson AND Justin Fields were both Steelers quarterbacks in 2024???

So field finishes his year here? And then after the season we determine to give him a new contract or do a 5th year option, right?

Or have we agreed to anything today?

I had Russell Wilson as a possible candidate under the assumption he would play via the league minimum. I didn't have Fields at all.

The team might be trying to extend Fields given his 5th year option is a massive oof. Najee still hasn't had his though I doubt he is going anywhere.

I get Wilson isn’t elite anymore, but let’s not act like he didn’t have 26-8 TD/INT ratio last season. 2022 was rough, but it definitely seems to be an outlier given his strong resume. He’s a strong add.

and hell, Fields has TREMENDOUS upside. At worst, he’s one of the best back-up QBs in the game. At best, the Steelers may have their guy.

Khan has done everything he’s needed to do and the prior regime was afraid to do, and then some. Find a WR and Center, first and foremost, and let’s ride.

    Huh

Quarterbacks are here to throw touchdowns

Kenny Mason and Mitch combined for 13 last year

    Fields alone had 16

    Russell had 26

That is a tremendous increase in production

The quarterback room is way way better than last year

I was coming to say this. What a weird comment with no legitimate facts to back it up. Lol you’re 100% correct.

Again, Pickett (trade value) > Fields (trade value).
    That is a fact.

They have to decide on the fifth year option this offseason, by May I think. It’s $20m + so unlikely they pick it up

May be better to see how this year goes and keep either Wilson or Fields for 2025 on an extension. If they are both a disaster you’re back to the draft

Yes, but Khan has positioned his needs to align with the strengths of the 2024 draft. Brilliant. Skillfully done if you ask me.

Fields may not be it…but Josh Dobbs is NOT better than he is.

I doubt the Steelers Qbs will toss 26 or even 16 tds next year. Sean Peyton, one of the best offensive minds, restricted what Wilson could do (check out his % of throws behind the line of scrimmage). Both Wilson and Fields will be playing for a team next year that has an inconsistent offensive line ,gaping holes at WR, and for an offensive coordinator who wants a 60-40 run pass ratio. I expect another inconsistent offense that might score a bit more but more importantly, will have more turnovers as well. Both Fields and Wilson have much higher INT rates than Pickett.

The Rams moved on from Kurt Warner.
The Pats moved on from Tom Brady.
The Pats moved on from Jim Plunkett.
My point is there are examples of QBs doing well after leaving a team.

Just a friendly reminder Fields also threw for more TD's than our QBS did last year .

Many people have not watched Wilson nor Fields platy football outside of highlights, and "lowlights" in a while and it really shows.

Chicago may not have wanted to trade him to an NFC team either.

Huh, who said the Bears only wanted a 6th rd pick in return? Supposedly they wanted much more but the Eagles weren't willing so the deal fell through which led them to reach out on Pickett.
