Mind you I did say leverage.

Cannot blame Chicago though. Start at the highest price. Move down from there.

If you start out too high in a negotiation the other side commonly will just move on rather than waste time

No way I'd give up a 1st round pick and would be very hesitant to give up a 2. Fields is an intriguing prospect (and that's what he remains at this point, a prospect) but hasn't done enough to show that he can be a consistent winner in the NFL. If it does happen, I could live with it if the price is right (no higher than a 3rd this year and another lower round pick or two in future years).

You don't do guys a solid in a playoff game. You don't put players out there just to get experience in a playoff game. You do everything you can to win. They had a choice between the hot hand or the guy who had been out for six weeks. If both had played relatively recently, Pickett would have been out there.

I wouldn't believe that rumor, I saw people on twitter saying that guy just made that up, you notice none of the other insiders had this info.

Totally disagree. If a guy is your future you don’t rob him of important development. Pickett played his best game before getting hurt.

I think it is feasible they aren’t really sure about Picketts future as their franchise guy otherwise he would have been inserted back into the lineup when he was deemed healthy enough to play.

He’s getting that opportunity this season (maybe) because of draft status.

Ugh…. I’d hate for this to happen. If it does I will root for him until I’m blue in the face, but I fear that we’d be going all-in on a guy who is better than what we’ve got, but not good enough for us to be a top contender.

If they do trade for JF it tells me Tomlin is calling the shots, more than Kahn is

When a QB has been out for a few weeks and the backup QB is hot, it's better to stay with the hot hand come playoffs time, unless your QB number 1 is much much better

Jimmy Johnson decided to go with his backup QB in 1991 in the playoffs when Aikman missed several weeks due to injury before playoffs time and in 1991 Aikman was much better than the current version of Pickett

If the Steelers would have gone with Pickett vs Bills, it would have been as bad as Jack Del Rio's decision in 2005 when he decided to go with Leftwitch in the playoffs instead of Garrard despite Leftwitch having missed several games before the playoffs

Yeah but some guy on this board made a point of letting me know I was on an agenda or cranky or something like that when I tried to mention the same thing

I think Fields could be more successful with the Steelers than with the Bears, he would be surrounded by more talent, and better coaching .

I don't see how putting him out there after six weeks out of the lineup was going to do him or the team any favors. Player development is important, but once you make the playoffs, winning the next game always has to come first.

Aikmans injury was more serious, tore ligaments in his knee and a much greater risk of reinjury. His position as starter was never in doubt, he had a solid lock on it. It’s was all about his injury.

Beuerlein was also a much better QB than Rudolph. In ‘99 he led the league in passing and went to the pro bowl. Even still, they put Aikman in for the Detroit playoff game late in the first half.

I don’t know. Think that was an awful lot of wishful thinking by Tomlin if he thought Rudolph would lead them the SB.

Imagine if they had put Pickett back in and he played well and the team still got to the playoffs. We’d have a much better feel for him going into this season.

I am hoping Arthur Smith is in there somewhere with his 2 cents.

My 2-cents says that the kid who was drafted 8 spots in front of Fields in 2021, "Trey Lance" was just traded to the Cowboys for a 4th round pick. Hell, I bet the Steelers could get Zach Wilson, who went 9 picks ahead of Justin Fields for a 4th round pick. The Steelers should not be offering a 1st or a 2nd for Fields; maybe a 3rd round pick and nothing else.

Exactly. There was no need to get it if they weren’t going to let him play. I’m sure that is part of why he was so upset.

I'm actually torn, and agree with both on this. You go with the hot hand, but especially having Him have surgery so He can comeback faster, and then not going to him makes You wonder how much faith they actually have in Him. Of course I truly believe this is not a one man decision like some believe. I believe it's a 3 man decision. HC/GM/Owner, and they may all have different opinions on the whole thing.

Well if they do end up bringing in someone else to start, that will be our answer.

Would be such a tremendous waste of a first rd pick in a growing list of wasted first rounders.
