Well, if you go with 3/$90M with, say, $40M in signing bonus, a soft base in 2024, and two void years you get something like this:

    $10M + $8M
    $20M + $8M
    $20M + $8M
    void + $8M
    void + $8M

I'm assuming by third year option you mean you're guaranteeing the first two years, since outside of rookie contracts every non-guaranteed year is technically an option year in the NFL in terms of base salary. This would be a reasonable package for the Steelers, not sure if Cousins' camp would be on board. His last extension had him at a $35M AAV with his base guaranteed; this would step him down to $30M with partial guarantees. They could package some incentives to bump the potential amounts, but I'm not sure if that would get them over the hump or not with him.

The only real competition I see would be the Raiders and Falcons, but both are in a better place financially (the Raiders are $31M under their cap, the Falcons $20M) to throw some extra money at someone they wanted. Maybe the Pats ($57M under) or Bears ($34M under) show interest if they decide to draft their QBs of the future and sit them behind a proven vet for a couple of years.

The Falcons are in a better spot to make a run for him depending on who lands there as HC. If money is his main motivation and it turns in to a bidding war they would have the upper hand but I recall him saying recently that he has earned a lot already and his next move won’t be about money.

Those figures look good but the base could be lower year 1 if they wanted to be really aggressive but you have to balance the present and the future of course. It’s very doable if they want to sign him and if he wants to play for the Steelers in any case

And by option year yes I mean leave the third year with lower guarantees so he either moves on or they turn it in to a bonus when the time comes if they feel they are close. It might be a hard sell to the player though.

I think a player like Cousins could potentially transform the offence. Just getting the ball reliably and consistently to the open receivers is something we haven’t seen in years.

I hadn't seen those comments. Bodes well for the Steelers if they're interested, and they could further finagle the contract structure to fit their needs. The question is whether they're interested in going that route. To do so would likely be waiving the flag on Kenny and the draft capital invested on him to become a starter for them. I don't know if they're ready to do that yet.

Of course. Looking at it from the outside however, and from comments being made by players it’s looks like the offensive players were much happier with Mason leading the offence. They could have a locker room issue very quickly if they go in to 2024 with Kenny and he continues to struggle to get the ball in to the endzone.

I have no idea what they will do or what they are thinking but if they wanted to go for Cousins I definitely think they can make it work financially

Cousins also has only one playoff win, and he struggles in primetime games with a 12-20 record, they would have to do a lot of restructuring of contracts to afford him.

I would rather put in an offer for Justin Fields.
