Heard the Steelers are top candidates to land Cousins. Thoughts?

IF he checks out with our own doctor, I wouldn’t be disappointed if this happened. Not euphoric, but not disappointed. I think he’s a very solid QB and would definitely have no problem getting Pickens and DJ opportunities to make plays. My only question mark (assuming our doctor clears him) is how clutch he would be.

Pass, in his mid thirties and coming off of a serious injury, he also would probably cost 30 million or more.

I 'heard' a half dozen names were coming here, so there is that, last year he extended with the vikes for 35 million in a one year deal. Coming off that injury he likely can't command that, but still won't necessarily be cheap. He is coming off an Achilles injury and will be 36. Cold be ready, but are you really wanting to sink big money into someone who is on the backside of his career? It may come to this, but frankly I would give a bigger offer to MR (bigger offer in BU terms) than to bring him on.

Looking at the teams with recent success, they had the advantage of a good QB on a cheap rookie contract which enabled them to pay for supporting cast.

therefore, i'd hate to use significant cap space on an average QB and only have average support personnel. You'd only be .500 like that for years and not win a playoff game in years despite occasionally making the playoffs.

Not at the expected $35m. Not after coming off a major injury. Not at 36 years old.

I wouldn’t hate it. As he is a free agent they’d have huge flexibility in terms of how to set up his contract and spread the cap hit out. Id have no issue giving him a very good deal but if he is looking for another fully guaranteed contract like he got in Minnesota then I’m not interested, it’s too risky with his injury history and age.

Three years $90m with the third year being an option year and a couple of void years on the end would be fine, then review at the end of year two. This would mean going absolutely all-in in 2024/25. You are looking at Cam being gone and TJ being on the wind down at that point so you’re going to be in rebuild mode regardless.

Personally I think if they make a QB move it’ll be a trade for Fields. MT liked him coming out by all accounts and he has shown enough upside in flashes to make Tomlin believe that he can ‘fix’ him. They’d probably have to give up their second round pick and a 2025 third / fourth or something like that.

Interesting how dismissive some folks are about Cousins ad his age. Last year he had 18 TD passes through 8 games and was averaging 291 passing yards per game and just under a 70% completion percentage. Wouldn’t it be nice to have QB production like that? This team is talented enough elsewhere on the roster that a healthy Cousins, coupled with a few other mid-tier offseason acquisitions and a decent draft, would make us a true contender. If our doctors determine that he’s coming along well in his recovery and should be ready to roll for the 2024 season, I wouldn’t be disappointed.

It would definitely be a win-now move. Given the age of Cam, and the limited window for TJ and Minkah to be at their prime, it could be the right thing to do.

It is the combination of the major injury and his age that makes me think it is a bad risk for the sort of money it might cost. Cousins was still very, very good before he got hurt, but is he really the guy to do more than maybe win a playoff game? This is assuming he can come all the way back and stay healthy at his age, which is a big assumption.

Well his age really doesn't bother me but the price tag plus he is a Glass Joe type doesn't move my needle.

Your argument is valid for what he can bring to the table though.

But they are not going to bring someone in like that to sit behind Pickett. The reality is Pickett will get every mulligan and be QB #1. Just watch.

Even is they bring Mason back which I believe won't happen. I'm sure his agent will find a better suitor and he will get a nice raise.

One thing that better happen is that scrub Mitch The Pick best be gone! What a major disappointment! And a drag on the cap.

Glass Joe? He missed one game from 2015 - 2022. How many QBs have done that?

Kirk Cousins = Matt Ryan with Colts

Cousins would fold like a cheap tent with this O line.

I stand corrected. Did not know.

Still he won't be coming to Pittsburgh I believe unless they have given up on Pickett which is not the way they do business with 1st round picks.

Rather stick with Mason. He didn't produce those numbers however if you average it out he would be 10 tds, 2 int, 70% and 2xx some yards. He was in a less than ideal position coming in at the end of the season.

Rather there be potential for a future. Kenny, Mason, (youth not named Fields.)

QB will come here IF we have a TALENTED OC.

    chicken and egg theory

Kirk would LOVE this run game, take a modest contract - and build that OL and D thru FA and draft - get 2 years from him.

See if Kenny can SIT and LEARN
