The problem was Walker. He didn’t drop and get depth in his zone, he ran to the man coming into his zone and ran himself out of the play! You could see Porter almost just continue running with him when he sees Walker flashing out of position.
Give him some more experience and he probably just stays on him there to cover for the screwups!

Biggest problem though was no Minkah.

As I had both predicted and feared, no Minkah makes the MOF essentially a Grand Canyon for opposing WRs.

He was the only guy I watched play in college football that shut down Marvin Harrison Jr. in head-to-head matchups. Harrison torched Penn State whenever he was covered by anyone else and in any coverage. Only Porter has been able to line up across from him and take him away. I am a Penn State fan and I got to see him play every game of his college career. It was pretty impressive seeing those coverage skills that would clearly translate to the NFL. Yes, he is a little grabby, but he is just always in the WR's pocket. He's right on top of him. When that happens, wide receivers are grabbing and pushing him too to try to separate from him. The kid was built to matchup with people in man coverage.

I just wish people would stop bitching about a couple penalties and concentrate on the fact that he makes Pro Bowl level wide receivers disappear when he is on them. You are going to get some penalties when you are going up against these athletic freaks every snap. Maybe I should post some videos of Antwan Blake or any of the other corners they have had to suffer through since Ike couldn't do it anymore to make people appreciate how good this kid is. He was a steal as the first pick in the second round. I never thought he would be there when they moved up for Jones in the first round.

When you look at the numbers he is holding all these great WR's to, it is mind-blowing. We know there are a couple holes on the roster, but everyone should just be happy he's here. If they find another really good corner this offseason or one of the youngsters already here develops, this defense can get really good, really fast and be able to just shut teams down.

That's the beauty of it. He grew up in a pro locker room with Ike working with him. You don't think he was sitting down watching film with his dad and Ike? Ike was really under rated. If he had better hands he would have been a contender for a HoF shot

Already he's improved his tackling and he's learning to ride that fine line in the NFL. He's thinking too much in zone, but that's ok for a rookie.

Yeah, but that's relying on Minkah to cover for a LB running out of his zone again to make the tackle after the catch.

Had he stayed in his zone and just got depth he's there to make that throw harder and if Minkah is on the field a chance at another INT or at worst a contested catch with no RAC.

Oh trust me, I also saw thar matchup between JPJ and MHJr. Great battle indeed. Joey got his but Marvin Harrison Jr also had some good catches as well. Following that game, I had already had Joey Porter Jr as a First Round Pick. Moving him into the Top 15 given that performance along with his performances in the remaining games was easy.

I am not stating Minkah should have covered him given that was Mykal Walkers responsibility. My point is that Minkah would have saved that touchdown given that, just before his injury, he was leading the team in tackles.

I thought the Steelers incapable of drafting and developing a defensive back. They had not done that in a long time. JPJ proved me wrong, and for a rookie db in Pittsburgh to step in and step up like that does not happen often. He is a bit handsy on the receivers but hopefully he will break that bad habit, and that is the only bad part of his game that I can see.

I think there was some luck involved there. Steelers having 32 pick and him somehow falling out of the 1st round. That actually helps though, adds a chip on his shoulder.
I mean, he's the perfect guy to fit in and he's already been getting NFL level development tips before he came (back) into the locker room.
I'm not worried about the :grabby: rep. I mean you got guys out there tackling receivers before the catch with no call!

You can't have too many really good corners in today's NFL. It changes what you are able to do defensively when you can go 4 deep at the position with guys that can really cover.

This exactly. Especially in today's NFL with less emphasis on hitting, and more on coverage.

Ben had a great comment on his Footbahlin livestream. He said JPJ needs to wear gloves that are the same color as the opposing uni's. He wears gold gloves which makes any grab he makes stand out like a sore thumb. If he wears gloves that blend into the opposition jersey's it's much harder for the refs to see the grabs.

Belichick has had his offensive linemen doing that for years. Makes holding less visible.

Joey Porter Jr has been a real nice addition.
I have disagreed with their handling of Jones and Porter, both stood out in the preseason.
They should have just made the decision to start them and trust the learning process.

Memory shaky but Woodson got popped at times and Blount would be like what the F with today's rules.

You would think players would be smart enough to know this...Same with shoe color for sideline catches.
