Injuries happen to all NFL teams, your logic would have 90% of the NFL at .500. Great coaches excell through adversity by the draft, free agency and player development. The other excuses pointed out seem to be matters that a Head Coach who as so many like to remind us "taking the Steelers to the Super Bowl his first year" seem to be his inability to correct and consistantly improve on, not be having the same problem all through the season.

Yep! And with a big ole beer gut to boot! Then WCW made a rip off character of him called Big Josh who was a lumberjack from the "north woods". He went on to actually be kinda famous with another character called Doink the Clown. I read a few years ago that Hacksaw and the Iron Shiek got busted with pot and dui! SHOCKING!

Yep, people are just repeating what coaches say about injuries, coaches have to spew that stuff but any fan should know better. By saying that the amount of injuries we had doesn't matter is saying that any good coach can field a team of backups and go to the playoffs, that's one heck of a super coach, hell, cut the starters and save yourself a boatload of money! Starters start for a reason and back ups are back ups for a reason. You can navigate through some injuries but not the amount we had.

I know! I've said a million times that if backups are as good as starters then the why have the big money guys? If Charlie Batch can play as good as Ben why not pay Charlie Batch as much as Ben? Or Ben as much as Charlie Batch? I honestly think it would be refreshing for Tomlin or any coach to come out and say "well could you win with 19 of your starters on the bench?" The thing about this team is that most people that get on the field really play a true role. We're not like most teams that have a couple of guys that the offense runs through and if you take away those two guys you can win. If our guys are healthy we can beat people in different ways. That is IF our guys are HEALTHY. It is not an excuse to mention injuries. In our case injuries are an EXPLANATION! Sheesh people kill me sometimes!

That would bring the total between my list and yours to 29. So 29 people injured which means we have a 53 man roster which means that it was conceivable that we almost didn't have a team to field. Good grief! But yeah we need to step up and get it done right??? Gimme a break!

i agree that the injuries where the biggest reason this team missed the playoffs, but now this team is 1 year older and some of those guys that got injured need to be replaced.

im thinking we should see atleast 4 new starters on defense and a few on offense. who steps up to replace Wallace and Mendy and what olineman step up. we could and should be looking at 8 new starters on this team next season.

Ed Bouchette is on record as saying he had never seen a team this decimated by injuries. Indeed, that played a huge role in the team's 8-8 season. But two things come to mind:

    1. Other teams do have injuries on the oline and still manage to protect the QB. I think of New England every time I think of o-line play. What they do on the line is remarkable. It doesn't matter who's playing. Brady's jersey stays pretty clean nearly every game. O-line play is about technique, about coaching, about mindset. The line play under Cowher was also very good. Since Tomlin took over, the line has been a disaster. It doesn't matter who they draft.

    2. Some of the injuries are due to poor conditioning and training (as well as technique). Part of the problem may be the new rules that limit players' practice in pads and how they are now pampered.

Brady gets rid of the ball quicker. Though I'll grant you that NE tend to show better discipline (or, to satisfy the conspiracy theorists, get called less for penalties).

Well it's probably tough to make the case that our line is getting worse because of the new rules but the Pats line is still good ya know? But you are right about how they have a great line all the way down the line. They've got depth on their line like we do in our WR core.
