These players have been playing the game since high school. You don't run into a guy after a fair catch has been called. Surely you know what an illegal formation is - hopefully that's not what they practice during the week. Lining up offsides? Can you count to 11 players on the field? Those kind of penalties drive me nuts. Maybe Porter should wear mittens, not gloves, so he can't be so grabby.

I am also beginning to see how Ben was such a perfect fit for this team. His ability to improvise to keep drives alive may have compensated for dumb plays being called. That's why he was so good at up-tempo. And Troy's improvisation helped the defense. Maybe let the players draw up plays in the dirt - can't be any worse. Doesn't seem like they practice during the week anyway.

Also continue to go with Najee Harris when there is a clearly a better option on the bench. Playing favorites just rubs me the wrong way.

The Steelers are, and have been the last five seasons, pretty much middle of the pack in terms of penalties and penalt yards. This year they rank 13th lowest penalized team in terms of number of flags per game and 16th in penalty yards.

I guess we can't blame the stupidity on officiating.

We cannot even line up a legal offensive formation and count on d. A high school coach would catch heck for a team making these mistakes let alone professionals. So basically , the head coach did not prepare team mentally for the 2nd worst team in the NFL who is the worst road team in the league. Then the team cant line up on offense. The team cant stop doing dumb penalties like hitting a returner after a fair catch. Then crushing a receiver after ball is an incomplete pass. The steelers have been unwatchable since Big Ben injury on offense for years and now the team cannot do the little things right on d and special teams as well. We will beat crap Patriots because they are tanking for a qb and then lose to every team not named the bengals. Great news though, the sacred non-losing record streak of 9-8 will be in tact for a average franchise.

I’ve been saying for years that Steelers don’t practice anything properly.

I remember going to training camp a couple years ago ... there was a distinct difference the way Munchak was drilling the offensive line and the rest of the team was practicing.

It’s not the number of penalties, but the type of penalties. I can understand a few holding calls and pass interference calls. But pre-snap penalties and taunting are a symptom of lack of preparation and discipline. That’s a team issue that I wish would be addressed.

I agree with Steel Acorn I don t mind the odd aggressive penalty like someone being all twitchy and jumping the snap by a slip second. But too many men on the field lining up wrong is just piss poor preparation and a lack of discipline.

I am old enough to remember Knoll and he had a very disciplined team in a much more violent NFL. Yeah they took penalties but rarely stupid ones and if someone did something stupid they found a seat on the bench.

Most are too sensitive to be able to stand a Knoll scowl or a Cowher spit face wash.

What is great, at least, is the proverbial pre-snap false start penalties have been virtually eliminated which used to kill us countless times. When it happens actually its been on our WR's which is insane.

A team can only be as stupid and immature as the head coach lets it be.

Based on the number of penalties and the number of penalty yards, there's nothing to indicate the Steelers are outside the norms. They're pretty much average for both. If, for example, they had an abnormally high percentage of pre-snaps, you'd expect they're penalty yards to be low relative to their number of penalties. You just don't see that.

I get it that it's frustrating, but it doesn't look like an actual problem. Not to mention penalties don't even correlate very well to wins and losses in general.

Warren should be getting a little more of the load, but look what happened against the Bengals. Harris should play.

beginning to see? Ben was a generational player, that covered for a TON of Tomlin's inadequacies. Now,the Emperor has no clothes. Both Ben and Troy came BEFORE MT.

and practice - don't worry, not much of that went on this past week, ask Jaylen.

Nobody has questioned what happened in practice last week. In fact, the players have said there was no sign of trouble. It was how poorly they reacted on game day. This idea that it was all Roethlisberger is just comical. A generational player is one that comes a long once every 20 or 30 years. Roethlisberger wasn't even the best quarterback of his generation.

Ben went to three Superbowls, winning 2 … we will be waiting a long time before something like that happens again.

Thats just because our offense has been on the field so little.

Not very well. Both Dallas and SF are, for example, in the top 5 this year in penalty yds. KC had the third most penalty yds in the league last year, Atlanta the least.

That might be the case. I haven't seen penalties per snap stats, but even so its doubtful, imo, that the Steelers are somehow outside the norm. They have the fewest offensive pre-snap penalties in the league and they may have run the fewest offensive plays too. Now if they were middle of the pack in offensive pre-snap penalties that would be different.

How does bad officiating correlate to wins and losses?;+)

Pretty sure a few of us won't make it to see another one. I won't last another Terry B to Ben R.
