Not really. You could theoretically make a single pass that went ....let's say 70 yards, and still go 3 in out right after that, and that would only be four plays without much clock taken off....you could do that every drive....with out a td, and rack up all kinds of yards, and not even be close to leading the time of possession. Lots of yards can easily be just a few big plays without anything else.

 

you can also have a 15 play drive where the qb is sacked in every 4 down series but makes 1st downs and not score ending in a turnover in the redzone

You can but this situation is extreme.

Normally if you have a 400 yard game and you don't struggle in the red zone and you are clean in turnovers, the team will have a very good offensive game

If you have 250 yards or less, the team is going to need a great field position, turnovers by your defense or something else out of your control to score a lot of points

Well I have seen a few games in the NFL where the offense has had over 400 yards , no tds , and lost. All I'm getting at is yards are not the be all end all. TOP, and Points are IMO. Just like on D...giving up yards aren't that important....turnovers, pressure and points are.

 

It's possible, but again, the odds are much better to have a very good offensive game if you have 400 yards... Being clean in penalties, turnovers and good in the red zone is also important( and I said that previously btw)but you also have more likely to have a good offensive game with 400 yards than with 250 yards.400 offensive yards and 0 TD you need to be awful in other offensive stats!

i remember back to one of the bettis' last years, i think it was his next to last. didn't he have like 5 TD's and 6 yards.
