No team in the NFL will trade for Murray’s current contract IMO

If Murray doesn’t play well the rest of the season or if he gets hurt again and they end up in position to pick another QB he will be cut.

If he plays well and they get a few more wins they’ll keep him.

He doesn’t have a no trade clause by all accounts so the Cards only need to find one trade partners, maybe a desperate team like the Raiders would do it.

I don’t see the Steelers as a factor at all unless he is cut and they think they can get him cheap and without giving up a pick. Murray isn’t perfect but he is miles ahead of Pickett and he would improve the offence dramatically

It sould play out that way, if they pick up his 5th year option after the 4rd year then it becomes guaranteed, which is pricey but can be re-written into a longer deal. If they cosse not to, they can rif=de the train through 4 and re-sign him at that time if they choose. His magor hurdle is year 3, if he shows promise under a new OC then they likely pick up the option, if not they probably look at other opportunities.

Agreed. I know some folks here don't want to hear it, but Pickett is probably getting one more season before the Steelers would give up on him.

Me, not an expert, had Pickett and Howell as the best QB's in the draft. Howell is playing pretty nicely in Washington rn.... Pickett has been the best of the rest (low bar to clear) . I also predicted that Willis would likely be out of football by 2025 and that is also looking like a pretty good bet.

TBH I think he has earned that third year. He has show just enough to keep me interested. One more year to prove that he can be 4th quarter Kenny for more than just the 4th quarter. Might just give him a chance with a different OC to show more too.

As for the OP, I think the media sees us as a team that could be legit with better QB play and Murray is a definite upgrade over what we've gotten from Pickett this year. However, I think he is overpaid for what he brings and he doesn't make us an immediate threat to win it all. I'd pass. But I would keep an open mind to adding a QB if one becomes available.

We were the odds on favorite to trade for Cousins when the Vikes were losing. To avoid playing in a Canada offense, he tried so hard to win that he tore his Achilles

I meant an option bonus that had been exercised by Arizona. At that point, I think it became the same as a signing bonus, and goes 100% to Arizona’s cap.

Kirk Cousins 2 years ago would've been absolutely amazing. Would've been the perfect tie over until we found someone we thought was "can't miss" and drafted that guy via big trade up. Dude is so underrated. He isn't a world beater by any means, but the man is just a solid Tony Romo/Eli Manning type guy. Just needed a team around him to help him a bit in the post season a bit.

Yep. If a player is set to receive, say, a $5M roster bonus on the fifth day of the league year the team has until then to release or trade the player without the player receiving the money and it counting against the team's cap.

All the pundits are all over Purdy, but here we are halfway through a second round of teams seeing him and his super stacked weapons not being there for him and we see something falling apart

His yardage goes down when he's not getting those 40+ yard McCaffrey catch and runs.

two weeks ago, my son came out of him room and said, "Dad, guess who I just played 2K with? Kyler Murray."
Apparently there is a video game that actually identifies the celebrity you are playing against in real time. And my son was playing the real Kyler Murray.
A starting NFL QB was playing video games against kids in the middle of the NFL season?????

We have Qb's that come out of college and explode on the scene, the old school was it takes 5 years for a QB, but the college game has advanced to the point where they now are ready when they turn pro. yes and no, for some they just are that good, others they get the right organization, coach, and system. Some just never grasp the pro game for a variety of reasons, while others when given another opportunity become real quality QB's. We can't focus on a few guys have extreme physical gifts and excel because of that, if you find one you indeed are fortunate, what needs to be determined is if KP can be our guy for a decade. He is not Mahomes or Allen, but does he have the talent to lead a team consistently. I honestly do not know. Scheme is weak, players are young, line has not performed. We see his mistakes, so what is fixable and what determines he is the guy or it's time to move on? I think there is enough to push for a 3rd year.

LOL... The Steelers walking away from a 1st round pick before their rookie contract is over. You so funny. :)

Oh Yeah, I definitely remember Bush being show the exit door after year 3. ;) Before that it was Edmunds, and before that it was Arite Burns. I am almost sure that no matter how bad those guys played they all finished their first four years with the Steelers.

Kenny Picket will be the Steelers QB for the next 3 years. He was Rooney's pick and he is not going anywhere.

It's certainly not the way Steelers do business. We are AT LEAST giving him next season... Its just how the Steelers operate.

The next 8 games can change a lot of outlook for Pickett going into next season, but as it stands now if we're rolling with Pickett we better get used to sub 20ppg and bottom of the league offenses.
