Let's play a game of thread jacking.

Sorry to interrupt this super original thread to ask the following important question.

If you could only draft one of the following players to lead the Steelers defense for the next 10 years, who would it be?

    Joe Greene
    TJ Watt
    Troy Polomalu

For me, I would go TJ Watt. All 3 are hall of famers, but Watt playing is a difference maker between winning and losing games. I'm not sure any defensive player that I have watched has ever made the impact Watt does. Maybe Lawrence Taylor.

No help from other teams today.

The NFL, refs and Goodell are showing their conspiracy against the Steelers in broad day light.

MJG and it’s not even close. When he was on the field, he was the alpha male of alpha males.

It's hard for me to compare eras. I wasn't old enough to follow the Steelers closely until the early 80s. Outside of watching all the Super Bowls I never really got to watch Mean Joe in his prime.

If they have the same impact in this era as they did theirs? Joe Greene.

Joe Greene easily. TJ is incredible, but Greene is a top 10 player of all time. He was arguably the foundation of those incredible defences

I would also argue Troy is more important than TJ to a defence. He could change the game in the blink of an eye. Rushing up to meet the RB in the hole, sacking the QB, getting INT's, huge hits in the open field. Troy was everywhere and was involved in every aspect of the game.

Hard to pick anyone over Mean Joe. He joined a downtrodden franchise and lead the transition from a defense that was always physical into one that was physical AND dominant and just downright intimidating. Much has been written about Lambert and his intimidation and it's all well deserved. But Mean Joe set the standard and was every bit as nasty as Lambert.

No i don't bet but I'm :@ because the 49ers let :brownssuck: beat them. just like every other team let the AFC north win. Hurting the Steelers.im a Steeler fan and it is just terrible when nothing goes our way like the Bills beating Giants <no help>probably Dallas will lose to Chargers on Monday night football ----------Big Picture.

I was fortunate enough to be able watch MJG in his prime and he was absolutely something to behold. A single blocker could not handle him and it was rare that two blockers could get him under control. I've seen teams triple team him which of course left one of the other great defenders open to make a play. If he wanted to penetrate the backfield, he penetrated the backfield...period! He was so disruptive that many times he was on the quarterback nearly before the quarterback could hand the ball off. You probably got to watch Reggie White in his prime. Mean Joe was Reggie White before Reggie White. To me, he was better than Reggie because he's got more Super Bowl hardware than Reggie. He was the cornerstone on which the Steelers dynasty was built. I love Troy and I love TJ, but their contributions to the organization pale in comparison to Mean Joe Greene's!

I was around and seen Mean Joe play in his prime. Yes he was a beast, he had a line full of beasts on def line, LC Greenwood etc.
Troy in my opinion made more of an impact in his prime, from sacks to ints and so on.
This is the reason i leaned toward Troy. MJG a close second. Like i said Steeler defense around MJG were all future HOFs.

Here’s the game plan handoff up middle for 2 and 9 then jet sweep right for 3rd and 8 then throw to outside hash for 4 yards Punt ! Rinse repeat till 4Th quarter then the KP magic happens

Agree. They are all equally impactful but the key word in the question is lead. Not sure about how much leading Troy did or if anyone wants to claim they are leading the current defense, but pretty sure Greene commanded the respect of the whole team. JMO>
