Getting back to the running game will help Cowher. That said, Mason Cole is the furthest thing from Jeff Hartings and sure does not touch Maurkice Pouncey. An above average Center is needed for this team and sadly, that player isn't available.

They need to rethink running with Naj, everyone in the stadium knew when it was gonna be a hand off as soon as the WR went in motion.

They need to put Naj in formations that make defense guess more if it is going to be a run or a pass. Plus Naj needs to be more of a threat to go out on a route, not just be a runner.

I agree. And I think it’s time to make Jaylen Warren RB1.

If teams continue stack the box it doesn't matter who is RB 1.

Cowher’s teams weren’t exactly offensive powerhouses. I’d be more inclined to listen to his defensive advice.

I don't understand why people can't see the difference of how the D reacts from one to the other. I question what some are looking at.

Funny how it worked out for the TD throw. The Ravens had exactly zero respect for the deep ball with 9 people in the box with the corners in press coverage.

Yeah there is zero respect for the passing game right now.

Other Teams will probably not be as foolish to crown the line with zero safety over the top from now on.

But at least they were often in the top in the league in rushing yards and time of possession

Bench the guy averaging 3.9 yards per carry so you can start the guy averaging 3.6. That strategy is...intersting.

Lies, damnable lies and statistics. ;)

I think it’s obvious that Warren is the more explosive of the two. I’d just like to see him get an opportunity to get into the flow of the running game with the starting offense. We’ve got to do something to give our running game a spark. Very disappointed in Najee’s performance so far and we’ve definitely seen more splash from Warren as both a runner and receiver. Maybe he’ll flop as RB1, but I’d like to see him get the opportunity to see what he can do with it.

This has been explained many times. Warren gets different opportunities than Harris. He is usually out there with more passing sets, so defenses adjust accordingly. He also has carries from the slot with Harris at running back, such as the one when he hurdled a defender Sunday. The defense flowed with Harris, giving Warren room to run.

Warren is the better receiver, which is why he is out there on third downs and other passing situations. You can talk about the eye test and what you think is obvious all you want, but if the starter is more effective statistically, it makes little sense for him to lose his job. I think the job share they have going now works well. They can go with the hot hand during the game. Warren had the better day against the Ravens, so it was right to keep giving him the ball. The week before, Warren did nothing and Harris was the best player on the field for the Steelers.

I’m not saying that Warren is the next coming of Leveon Bell (or even Barry Foster), but like a lot of fans I think he at least deserves more touches. I’ve been very disappointed with Najee up to this point. Hopefully, he can get things going after the bye like he did hast year. At this point, I don’t think the Steelers even consider his fifth year option. He hasn’t lived up to the hype of being a first round pick. Likeable guy, great story, but a disappointment at this point in his career.

The Oline was way better back then, plus Cowher had a HoF RB for a good chunk of his coaching career.

Canada has tried to run. This personnel group just can’t.

Najee has too many carries for minimal yards. Then he breaks off one for 20 and his YPC looks decent. Warren has a lot more carries for 3 plus yards. I bet Warren’s median carry is a lot higher than Najee’s. Running game and offense is way more successful at 2nd and 6 or 7 rather than 2nd and 9 or worse.

We need to accept that with a below average center, nothing will work well in any offense. Mason Cole gets beat in the running to the spot, and in the passing game the pocket gets pushed back seemingly every time. Matt Canada’s play calling and Pickett’s inconsistency does not help, but Cole is as big a problem as anyone and needs to be replaced in the offseason.

It would help both backs if once in a while on 1st down, get the QB behind center and throw a play action pass. We are so predictable everybody knows when we are going to run even against a stacked box.

I don't think they would pick up his fifth-year option, either, but he can both be disappointing and still be the better runner. The statistics tell us that he is the better runner. I don't just mean the average per carry. Don't forget that Warren also fumbled twice against the Texans, though one was overturned, and he isn't as good at holding on to the ball as Harris. It's not as if they use Harris as a true feature back. He only has 63 attempts through five games. That is less than 13 per game. When you figure in receptions, the gap in touches is even smaller, 68-54.

The offensive line has been horrible, so I have a hard time putting all of the team's struggles running the ball on Harris. It isn't as if you have to convince me that Warren is good. I was calling for him to get the ball more all preseason, though that was in response to people thinking they should take snaps and touches away from him and give them to McFarland.

Najee is gone soon, no 5th yr option - no nothing. You can blame the LINE, you can blame CANADA, you can blame NAJEE, but it ain't working right now - AT ALL. no reason for options and more money there.

Harris is still signed through the end of next season, so the fifth-year option isn't really relevant to what is happening now.
